Version 1.0
Initial release
DESCRIPTION This mod adds an automatic Laser Rifle to the game, with a custom mesh that fires a blue beam. Gameplay-wise, this is technically a self-charging energy weapon with effectively limitless ammunition, but it functions somewhat differently than the recharger rifle and recharger pistol. Instead of regenerating ammo over time, I used the gun's weapon condition to simulate an "overheat" mechanic. Each shot significantly depletes the weapon's condition, but if you stop firing, it will gradually repair itself. Therefore, this weapon is most effective when fired in short, controlled bursts.
I made the mesh myself by modifying the base game Laser Rifle, covering up the missing panels on the underside, and replacing the Microfusion Cell with a pair of Tesla coils and recycler plates from the Laser RCW. The blue beam, muzzle flash and impact effects were also made by me from modified base-game assets.
LOCATION
Spoiler:
Show
The weapon can be found in a custom mini-dungeon located in Freeside. There is a secret lab hidden inside the travel agency.
Of course, if you're feeling lazy, you can always use the following console command (Substitute ## with the number of the mod in your load order):
player.AddItem ##000ADE 1
INSTALLATION Extract all the files in the archive to your New Vegas data folder (which is the same folder where FalloutNV.esm is located) and then enable the ESP either in your mod manager of choice, or under "Data Files" in the launcher that runs when you start up New Vegas.
THE MATH
Spoiler:
Show
The gun has a base health of 100. Each shot damages the gun by 7.5%, meaning you can hold down the trigger and fire about 12-15 shots before the gun breaks. However, when you aren't firing, if the gun's condition is below 100%, it will repair itself by half a percent every 3/200 of a second until it reaches 100% condition.
