Wow I'm loving your mods. One question is this mod compatible with other mods the use the vanilla MISC Pre-War Book item? Like in TTW a BoS scribe requests the player to bring her Pre-War Books for caps.
Hi ! No I'm sorry it's not. The mod works by swapping vanilla misc items for an ingestible version. And the books already read are custom misc items, not the default ones. To make this compatible it would be necessary to create a patch so that the quests using the vanilla misc items use my misc item versions. I do not use TTW and am therefore unable to make such a patch :/ Atm with my mod the BoS scribe requests you're talking about can't be achieved.
Huh, this old problem shouldn't be too hard to tackle, you can just have a crafting recipe that turns the "read" books into the ordinary misc pre-war book, which is then only useful for that one ttw quest and other mods that require a pre-war book.
Unless the mod dynamically swaps misc books you pick up from the world into ingestible books, then we're in for a heap...
If it was that way, then i'd try disabling the script that does that conversion, and do it the other way around: you'd have to take a misc book into a crafting table and then turn it into a xp book from this mod!
Really cool mod! I have got questions: If I read the script correctly, what happens when you activate a skill book is the following:
0. The vanilla skill book won't give you any skill points. 1. You get a custom made skill book, 2. then it gets equipped, which gives you the skill points, 3. then you get the custom made skill book as a misc item, labeled "(read)", 4. then the custom made skill book from step 1. gets removed.
Why is there a custom made skill book, can't one just work with the vanilla skill book? Why it has to be removed in step 4, I thought a skill book acts as a consumable item and therefore disappears anyway after activation?
Oh dear ! It's been so long. I don't remember very well. What I remember is that indeed the "false" skillbook was necessary because it didn't work with the basic one.
For step 4 it is possible that this line is useless. I probably left it saying "just in case"... I made this mod while I didn't know anything about scripting, after trying (in vain) to create a mod for animated food and drinks (which I ended up succeeding in doing)
You are right, the "false" skillbook is needed, I tried to run a script which only adds the read version of a skill book but it didn't work. Thank you for your answer! Mod endorsed!
Hi ! Thanks for your post ! I'm like you, I don't like books are labeled as food item, but it was my first idea. I'm working (slowly) on a big 2.0 version. It will be more like a book overhaul but I've already labeled the books as... books :). I mean, pre-war books will be considered like Skill Books. If you use an item sorter mod (I don't, this is the reason it doesn't, in fact, annoy to much me that books labeled as food item) books will be now sort as book. I guess. And it will be better. But the 2.0 is not for tomorrow ^^
