this is a interesting idea, when you attack the truck it fleas like a brahmin and hilarity insues.
I was some what disappointed by the quantity of stuff they had to trade.
Im sure this sort of project is actually very difficult to pull off.
I have an alternate idea that that might scratch that same itch of vehicles always being in the location but.. without the complexity of seeing them on the roads.
ranom chance these vehicles and their troop attachments are in a location at any given time.
at least that would break some of the static nature without requiring tons of effort to script a convoy.
If I were to make a suggestion it would be to make a tank, basically it would be a rocket-launcher human with a unique model and high DT, it should be a bit slower than walking NPC speed.
With Xilandro's standalone vehicles coming out soon, this mod has a lot of potential to be immersive, so that you don't feel like you're the only person in the mojave who has a drivable vehicle. It also has potential to add many neat gameplay elements. However, as it is right now, it is lacking in several areas.
If you ever want to come back and improve this mod, i have a few suggestions/thoughts:
- The trucks look empty inside if you look through the curtains in the back. I suppose it wouldn't be hard to add a stack of boxes and ammo crates inside?
- If you attack the convoy, the truck should stop (it already does that to some extent) and a few NCR soldiers should spawn. 2 heavy troopers could come out of the back and two regular soldiers from the front (one from driver and one from passenger position). 6 soldiers in total with the ones following at the back seems reasonable to me. Once the threat has been neutralized, the extra toopers can go back inside and the truck gets moving again.
- The truck should be locked/restrained in place once the convoy is attacked. This would prevent weird behaviour (like turning on its axis).
- (issue) The truck can still be traded with even if hostile.
- If you destroy a truck, a grenade explosion plays and it disappears out of thin air. A much more sensible way to go about this should be having a nuclear explosion (like every other vehicle) and the truck be replaced with a destroyed static version which you can loot.
- Goes without saying that the player should be able to raid the convoy. There could be two possible scenarios: you could either blow up the truck and most of the loot gets destroyed (Benefit being that if you blow up the truck right away you don't have to fight the soldiers as they die in the explosion), or you kill the soldiers and get access to the full loot, which should be locked behind a hard/very hard lock.
- If you successfully destroy or rob a convoy, maybe a small reputation increase with legion and powder gangers?
- You should only be able to trade with the truck if your reputation with the NCR is Liked or above. Military trucks are for transporting valuable cargo from one place to another, not to trade with random wastelanders who are passing by.
- an FPGE patch to make the convoys disappear if the NCR loses at the dam would be nice.
- Is it possible to make the wheels spin more slowly? They spin way too fast for the speed at which the truck is moving.
- Way too much ammo in the truck. The inventory definitely needs a rebalance.
I'll look into these eventually. Thanks for the suggestions. As for the wheel animations and crates in the back of the truck - the model isn't mine so I, unfortunately, can't do anything in that regard. The rest I'll look into eventually though!
I concur with most of what he said. The potential for coolness of this mod is unbelievable. And immersion, too. It needs to be fully finished in order to reach its potential. I tried to look things into GECK in the past, but after hours of efforts, could never achieve anything, even as simple as exploring files. Let not even speak about editing. I wish i wasn't so stupid when it comes to pragmatic stuff. The most important part to me would be avoiding weird behaviors. So stopping the trucks when attacked and buffing up the NCR ability to protect the convoys would be mandatory, as well as having trucks being destroyed in a realistic way (realistic for the crappy engine, at least :p). Finally, in order not to make these trucks designed targets, it would need to bear consequences for the player. Attacking it would hurt badly the player's reputation towards the NCR, failing automatically some quests, raising prices at merchants.
It probably needs to make sure it uses revamped textures for the NCR (from NCR Overhaul) in case these are installed. One overhaul changes completely the uniforms, and i do believe one of your mods display those on the screenshoots.
All your mods have a sheer potential for coolness.
Is this using Traffic as a base? and if so, how did you get the trucks not to spin? Because I would like to know how you did that as I want to make my own similar mod. But if you ever do re-visit this project would you maybe consider adding cars on the road? I think having cars drive around the roads would be very cool, maybe even support for fpge and the living desert if you like the idea.

Great idea, but the way the truck spins around like it weighs nothing is pretty jarring imo

I know it's the apocalypse, but in the US they drive on the right side.
It's nothing big, just letting you know in case it was un-intentional. (Or my game is just weird)
XD
(here, for example)
