A genuine question: would someone please explain these "Higher female voice X" mods and why you would want to use them? Not all real world women have high voices, a fact which the voice actresses who recorded the original lines themselves demonstrate. It's not like they got men to voice these characters, they used women, and the range of voices seen in the game reflects the real world vocal range of women.

So it's clearly not a realism thing. Real women already voice acted these characters. So, what's the point? Does it make them more sexy to you? Or is it something else? I just don't understand what these mods are supposed to accomplish. Why do you want to make all the female followers have (artificially) higher voices?

It's probably because it's considered more attractive, yeah.

The attractive aspect of it is, if I'm being perfectly honest, the main reason. Some people prefer lower voices in women, but statistically it's mostly the other way around. Evolution dictates, and steadily moves in that direction; it's the preference for la différence.

But a little pushback on the "it's natural" argument. Modern women in Western societies speak in a lower register than in the past. It's a cultural phenomenon, and one with a subtlety that makes it so most women don't even recognize the fact. The giveaway is "vocal fry" (google it). When a person naturally speaks in a register that's too far below the middle of the range of their vocal chords, their voice will occasionally dip so low -- at the ends of sentences, for example -- that the vocal chords can't handle it, and you get a rasp. Most women today speak with some measure of vocal fry. They have subconsciously picked up the habit of using a voice register too low for their vocal chords.

Returning to the first point, I personally consider low voices to be unattractive, and vocal fry to be ESPECIALLY unattractive (and a pet peeve). This doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the voices in New Vegas; regardless, I am compelled to mod things to fit what I like. This whole thing began with Fallout 4. Bethesda decided the player character was going to be in their 40s, and furthermore they hired a voice actress who sounds like she's a heavy smoker on top of being middle-aged and having an atypically low voice besides. I modded that IMMEDIATELY. Two days after the game was released, my mod was out, even though it was hours and hours of dialogue. I simply couldn't move forward with playing the game otherwise. And I've decided to keep up the tradition since, when applicable.

Well, the appeal of the Higher Female Protagonist voice (A5 to be specific) to me is that it sounds more like how I'd imagine my character would sound. And how I sounded when I first started playing Fallout: New Vegas.

Same reason someone would use a more attractive female face or body mod I assume.

Awesome to see your voice mods in NV, if you continue I'd seriously recommend giving the Mutants a go, some of them really desperately need it. Most sound a little goofy/whiney, but the intelligent mutants like Marcus and Neil are so eventoned they're basically humans, nightkin are also a bit high pitched, you could imagine them being genuinely frightening with a deeper voice.(Mostly thinking of Keene.)

Problem is, her voice is sped up too. She was talking like a waterfall in Vanilla, now you can't make up half of the words because she talks too fast. When you change pitch you got to make sure speed is slowed down again. Everything beyond A2 sounded unnatural in my book anyway.

While I appreciate that you are familiar with the phenomenon of non-timestretched pitch changing, I have to recommend that you take another listen. Or, better yet, compare the files side-by-side in a multitrack editor. I have dozens and dozens of voice mods up for grabs. On this point, you have misheard. Or perhaps mis-remembered how Veronica speaks.

It would be so nice to have some samples before downloading, perhaps in the form of a Youtube video?
