I can't believe it's been so long... but today, as I was copying some stuff from here into the mod I'm working on (I have no shame) I realized that Lefroy's unique slot machine in his room was requiring the unused misc versions of Legion and NCR money, instead of the actual caravan money versions. Stupid mistake, indeed. So, I've updated a fixed ESM to correct the issue.
I guess nobody had noticed... but I couldn't rest easy knowing I made such a blunder...
Really wanted to like this mod. Really did but... it's just too goofy. And not in the fun tongue-in-cheek kind of way.
I have a few overhaul mods for the Vegas strip and the shopping center fits perfectly in this one spot that's still sorely lacking (minus the invisible wall I had to clip through via command).
I really liked the vibe of the shopping center. Felt vaguely like a hippie commune, with a unique sense of quirky identity to the people living there. It felt unique enough to justify its distinct "role" in the Strip and the small cramped space felt well used. I even loved that it had the one casino in the Strip that you could play Caravan in since it wasn't an "official" casino and just a small tourist trap casino in a shopping center. Again-- it has a distinct vibe I really like.
But god... the humor is just not great. I talked to the ghoul character (Rio, I think?) and his dialogue about having nightmares about coffee mugs and waking up screaming "Mugs for Muggy" felt so awkward-- it's fine to not be lore friendly, but this just felt flat and terribly unfunny.
Then I saw what appeared to be a talking pigeon with a robotic voice after convincing a security guard to let me through a door? I stopped right there and immediately uninstalled. Was there going to be an explanation for that in the mod? Maybe. Did I care to see it at that point? No. I saw enough.
There's a fine line between quirky and absurdity. I feel like this mod tried to be the former, and veered unequivocally to the latter.
The ghoul with PTSD had been to Big MT, aka Old World Blues. Muggy is a robot there who is tortured by the Think Tank, who has forced him to collect mugs. The whole story with Muggy is horrific black comedy. OWB is filled with similar insanity, but its nothing new, Fallout 1 and 2 was often just as insane, e.g. the talking mole rat worshiped by a cult of ghouls in F2.
I know who Muggy is. But the ghoul's dialogue, the way I read it, did not seem to indicate he'd been to Big MT, or if he had, he doesn't actually "remember" it. He said he dreams about coffee mugs because they're the thing he sells the most of.
Him waking up yelling "Mugs for Muggy" without knowing why was just bad self-referential humor.
open strip does not play nice with with this mod. Ive been there. you can TCL to get to the entrance though. just a work a round there wont be a patch unless someone else makes it
maybe they're referring to the part that talks specifically about Strip Open........ just gotta install the version with the switch to remove the invisible wall. took two seconds of reading btw.
I really enjoy this mod. I don't play New Vegas without it. Jokerine was one of the best modders out there. Love the stores and the NPCs. Thanks Jokerine, wherever you are...
Lol whats up with that weird Black Candle Church and Ghoul Baby, creepy s#*! dude!...I'll pass, Creative I'll give it that much but not for Lore Lawyer me sorry, 10/10 for effort though.
