About this mod

Tired of ugly vanilla NPCs? Want them to look better, without being radically different? Are you sick of Comm Officer Castillo's head being shaped like a cashew? Then this is the mod for you!

OK, Version 3.0 now.

I'm done with this unless someone finds a bug, now. New features:
  • I redid a shitload of NPCs.
  • It's an ESM now. No more black-face anymore, baby.
  • Companion AI is less stupider.
  • All rangers now have the ranger toughness perk. God knows how that one slipped past development.

Version 2.0 out now!

Version 2.0 features such revolutionary features as:
  • No more purple-skinned Jackals
  • Introduced some new eye colors to Fiends/Jackals/Vipers, so they aren't all bloodshot and blue-eyed now.
  • That dirty hobo near Mick and Ralph's now has a shitty knife.
  • Freeside Thugs will no longer ignore Dixon and the Followers of the Apocalypse. Those guys got chems and meds on them, why wouldn't the thugs try to mug them?
  • Even less glowing spots underneath NPC eyebrows.
  • There's an overpowered god T-shirt stashed away in an unimportant little building in outer Vegas. I put it in for debug purposes and forgot to get rid of it. It'll probably be gone in the next update, so for now, you can ignore it... or wear it... or sell it... or throw it off of Hoover Dam... Up to you!
Also, we now have an optional file that doesn't make any changes to the companions. Download that one instead of version 2.0 if that's your thing. Having them both on would be stupid and redundant.

Version 1.5 out(dated) now!

New features in version 1.5 are... some more vanilla faces are fixed. Also, some of the faces I made in the first place were tweaked a bit. And, in keeping with the tradition of this mod being just a step beyond a plastic surgery pack, I've also made Cass's hat tradeable, and I've given the Great Khans slightly boosted stats. Cause they're supposed to be tough bastards, after all.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overhauled NPCs is a large project that I've spent way too long on. At first, I just wanted to tweak the faces of a couple NPCs who, quite simply, were abominations in the eyes of man and god. Ranger Jackson, Comm Officer Castillo. Janet... But I couldn't stop. So many NPCs in this game were plagued by weird fucking faces. Strange glowing spots underneath everyone's eyebrows, insanely neon hair-colors that would look more at home on one of the casino signs, super-sledge sized jaws, and loads and loads of blue-eyed black folks. So... I changed it. Over the course of several months, I tweaked the faces of NPC after NPC, until I was finally, finally satisfied.

But wait, there's more!

I've also equipped several NPCs with new gear! Why? Because! I've handed out US combat armor to a couple of NPCs who used to just have the boring old vanilla armor. I've removed the disgusting hobo rags from the Novac settlers, because why would people who actually live in a decent town settle for wearing hobo rags? I've distributed weapons to several NPCs who, until this sexy mod, were completely unarmed and defenseless. Why did the elite sniper unit have rifles without scopes? And my favorite part...

Westside Rearmament!

Let's face it. The vanilla Westside Militia sucked. What kind of milita is armed with nothing but cheap, single-shot 20-gauge shotguns held together with twine? Westside is supposed to be a tough, independent town that holds off the Fiends without the assistance of outside forces, but in the vanilla game, they wouldn't even be able to fend off an attack by a radroach (citation needed).

Drastic Changes?

I tried to avoid it! The whole idea behind this mod was to keep the NPCs as close to their vanilla selves as possible, while still making them look, y'know, less bad. There are a few NPCs who received a large face-lift, but with almost no exception, these NPCs were simple background characters, so hopefully this won't bother anyone too bad. There were also a couple of NPCs whose faces were so fucked up that I just gave them face masks, because even with the power of the GECK, I couldn't help them.

Conflicts?

Not really, no. Obviously, it won't get along with any other mod that edits NPC faces, but I've yet to find any actual game-breaking conflicts. My strong suggestion? Put this one at the very bottom of your load order. I know, I know, they say that about every mod, but that really is the way to get the best results from this. This mod does make minor changes to companions! So if you have stand-alone companion-changers, probably put those ahead of this one.
