Sooo... I built San Francisco

JC Vents His Frustration:

Initially, I was going to start this mod release with a nice-long rant about the shortcomings of the GECK when it comes to creating an LOD for a large water environment… and trust me… that rant would have been well deserved. Instead, I will merely say the following. Never again, and if asked to create an LOD for another large aquatic world cell my response will be similar to this:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H07zYvkNYL8

I spent about a week initially trying to get this thing done because the LOD gen took about 3 days on both attempts. The first time ended in failure when the mod was bricked thus forcing me to revert back to an older esp variant, and errors with the meshes from that older esp forced me to do another
LOD despite my best efforts to avoid that conclusion. But, despite this creation being waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind schedule, following 3 weeks of delays, I am finally releasing it.

JC Talks Shop:

Now, with that out of the way, let’s talk shop. BFM (BigF#cking Mod) San Francisco, is a significant modular design where I created a 1/3 scale replica of a significant portion of the real world San Francisco. This design includes LODed and navmeshed designs for: Angel Island, Alcatraz Island, San Francisco Commercial District, Treasure Island, and the Golden Gate Bridge.

I won’t lie, I wish that I had an LOD model for the Golden Gate Bridge because it would make distance rendering slightly less… well… ugly. Despite
that one detail, this mod is up to snuff when it comes to passing my “eye test.”

Plans Fell Through:

What I had originally planned on doing was a ‘Battle for San Francisco’ mod against the BoS with you fighting for the NCR, but… I honestly thought Fallout 4 would be coming in 2016 so those plans had to be unfortunately scrapped. That having been said, a significant portion of this mod still has its design based upon fighting the BoS, including a prototype interior to the West Coast ‘Bastille Fortress’ at the heart of the Commercial District.

Had time actually been more on my side then… that would have been one hell of a tower climb.

Size and Potential Usage:

Right so… size? Just with what is built thus far for the city. This mod is roughly the same size as all of DLC The Pitt’s world cells combined. You can find a ‘tourist’ door in the Goodsprings Graveyard if you want to take a look around. Also, I may or may not circle back around to this mod in the future as we get closer to November (Fallout 4). If not, go ahead and use it however you want since I still have Manhattan, Los, etc, to keep me busy.

Terms of Usage:

If you want to use this mod in your own work go right ahead, but mention me in the credits. Also, er uh, message me so that I know to alter the world cell names for future reference.

You will also need to mention the following people in your credits since they have also dabbled in some way with this mods creation.

Fallout2AM: Helped remove and fix numerous navmeshing triangles for this mods final release.
RoyBatterain: Project  consultant regarding navmeshing.
Zilav: LOD generator tool usage, project consultant for LOD generation, also helped create a Beta Build LOD for an earlier Mark 3 Variant of San Francisco.
(if I missed anyone just let me know)

Regarding LOD:

Three days, oh yes, 3 long days of LOD generation in order to create the mesh for the main world cell. There are still some mesh tares, and they are
hidden beneath underwater cliffs. The real terrain for this city wasn’t going to be so anemic when it came to coastal waters subsiding, but technical
limitations in the GECK forced this final LOD’s design, and trust me… it’ll be a cold day in hell when I make another one. That put aside, this is some of my best work.  ;)

Golden Gate Bridge: God, I wish I had an LOD model for this thing, but… this will do. In order to make the bridge look like it’s covered in rusting peeling
paint, I coated it in blood splatters. Results were… mixed… but sufferable. Indeed, I think you will enjoy the final design.

The Rock: Alcatraz Island in this mod is fully navmeshed with an LOD.I will also admit that scale wise, this Alcatraz Island is actually 4 times the size of the real one in comparison to the nearby city. I did this on purpose, because it was the only way to make it fit.

Angel Island: LOD clips torment this islands distance rendering, but overall I give it a pass. I hid a vault entrance here for potential later
usage, but will most likely never make proper usage of it.

The Bastille: The Bastille is the name of the Brotherhood of Steel Fortress inside the city. I have a prototype interior built, but will likely
never make usage of it. Lore wise, the Bastille was supposed to be something akin to the West Coast ‘Citadel’ except for San Francisco.

Expanding the Design

I included the SCOL data in this mod so if you want to recreate any of the skysrapers for other world cells that you might want to add into San Francisco, you need but select and choose to recreate them manually in the GECK. All search prefixes are: SanFran. This will guarantee that you have constant access to the skyline pieces.
