About this mod

A simple keyboard emulation control scheme for EssArrBee's incredible Fear and Loathing in New Vegas' modding guide. Swaps between 3 different profiles and provides sound cues to notify which profile is in use. Uses JoyToKey for emulation.

A few months ago I stumbled upon EssArrBee's incredible guide for modding FONV, Fear and Loathing in New Vegas  and quickly discovered that the game's default mapping of the Xbox 360 controller was insufficient for performing the functions added by various mods in the modpack, such as Nightvision, Selective fire, use of the flashlight and much more.

Although there were already a few controller schemes for F&L uploaded by various users on F&L's page for controller set-ups, none of them really suited me completely, so I chose to make this one.

This requires JoyToKey to use, a small mouse/keyboard emulation program that can be found on its website, which essentially does the same thing as Xpadder, and what distinguishes it from similar keyboard emulation profiles is its use of the top D-Pad button to swap between a few different profiles to provide different functions, giving an audio cue to indicate which is the current profile (One ding for profile 1, 2 dings for profile 2, 3 dings for profile 3.)

Honestly it's been a few months since I last played FONV, and I don't really remember what button performs which function,  but I'll probably update this page later with better information in a little while.

To set up and use the profiles, first install JoyToKey. Then, directly into JoyToKey's directory unpack the contents of FearAndLoathingButtonPressProfilesAndDings.zip (What this means is that the .cfg files should be in the same folder as JoyToKey.exe)

Now, In JoyToKey click the settings tab, and then "Associate Profiles with Applications"

here, you want to associate the profile "Fear and Loathing Full Emulation" with a few different executables, "FalloutMO.exe", "fnv4gb.exe", and "NVSE_Loader.exe".

To do this press "Add" in the bottom left of the window, enter the name of the application into "Application Name" and into Application Path + .exe filename, each application's respective path as shown above. Finally, select "Fear and Loathing Full Emulation" from the drop down menu for each application.

The next step is relatively simple, to configure each profile to play its respective cue, click on the name of the profile on the left hand side of the screen, and then the "Options" tab to the right

From here you want to check "Play sound when this profile is selected" and then click "..." to browse for the .wav file you want to use as your sound cue

These will be found in the same directory as JoyToKey.exe, Ding-quiet.wav should be applied to Fear and Loathing Full emulation, 2Dings-Quiet should be applied to Buttonpress swap 2 and 3Dings-quiet to Buttonpress swap 3 by the same process.

You're now ready to use the profile!

I apologize for the lack of explanation of functions, I will edit this in at another time.

ALSO, a limitation of JoyToKey is that pressing both triggers simultaneously will cancel out the other trigger's press. This is annoying, and can't be changed, however, one of the F&L mods adds a toggle sights function which allows you to just have to press left trigger to toggle the sights on and off.
If this is still too unwieldy, I apologize, you could use Xpadder to emulate trigger functions as it doesnt have this limitation and unbind the trigger functions in joytokey seeing as the trigger function is consistent across all profiles.
