I run New Vegas on High with no performamce issues. Would I gain anything from this mod? I was thinking about installing some graphical mods (lighting, weather) and I wanted to maximize performance.
Shouldn't this mod's .esps all be turned into .esms so that their files can be made to load (ex. in MO2) immediately after the vanilla files but before any other mod meshes and textures, including from other .esms? Is it just a matter of setting the .esm flag on each xxx.esp with FNVEdit and renaming it to xxx.esm?
Alternatively, to save some .esp/.esm slots, could the mod's .bsas be put directly into the Data folder and SArchiveList in the game's .ini be modified to load them after the vanilla bsas, or instead of them?
Answering my own question, that mod's description reads: "Decompresses the Fallout New Vegas BSAs and repacks them without zlib compression for performance, Also transcodes the .ogg sounds effects to .wav so they work. It also extracts any mp3 files to loose files because they will not play when in a BSA." That might be worth doing on these files too, which I note also contain .ogg and .mp3 files.
Also, BSA file sizes larger than around 2 GB can reduce stability: see https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/73tyg5/bsa_archive_size_limit/ .
Quick question. You mention that this affects pretty much everything in the Data folder. Textures, Meshes, and Sounds. Does this mean it'll conflict with other mods that change those things? For aesthetic reasons I mean, rather than optimization. I wanna be able to use the various armor and weapon texture/mesh replacer mods I like while everything else is optimized. I assume that's where the load order comes in, but I'd simply like confirmation before doing anything.
I've no doubt you've discovered the answer by now lol. These just act as a base, then you can pile whatever graphical mods on top of it with no issue, but with better performance.
Is this mod safe to use? I want to use the optimized textures but I'm worried the issues reported with the meshes would harm my game. Should I just unpack the .bsa in MO and hide the meshes folder in that case? Or is that defeating the purpose of optimization by running loose files?
Just downloaded it today and played for about 2 hours with no problems... then the game froze, but this have been happening since yesterday when I started messing with NVSR config files, so it's not caused by this mod. For me personally, I've seen subtle differences, but they are there, so give it a shot, it worked flawlessly, at least for me, bye
EDIT: Just extracted and dragged all the files (.bsa and .esp) into the data folder, activated with FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager) and sorted with loot.

I cant find the file that causes this issue so just delete the folder and the problem should be gone. If not, try deleting dlc04 and dlc05 as well.
EDIT: To fix this, go to "\meshes\dlc03\effects" and delete dlc03incinemuzflash01.nif and dlc03flamerexplosion.nif
