I noticed just now that these still have the default collision, so I did some tweaks in Blender to adjust the scale and stuff. Really cool idea, thank you!
Nice. Though I never got how your Pipboy can read such a huge disk in the first place. I first thought they were loaded into it, but perhaps they have a slot where you can connect a cord from your Pipboy.
That's what I originally thought too, but I read up on the Wiki briefly before I made this mod. It said "Holodisks can be used either in stationary computers or in Pip-Boys." To me it kind of implied they were used inside your Pip-Boy somehow, but I could totally be wrong.
The shape of the holotape casing could indicate that it has its own read and write device designed for use with PipBoys and other portable computers; if the tape were read-only, a VHS or audio tape cassette shape would make more sense. The corners not filled by the reels could contain motors or processors similar to those in a portable USB-connected hard drive, or perhaps even a battery. Were that the case, you would need only a cable to connect the holotape to the PipBoy and transfer files.
From the PipBoy's design standpoint, a cable connection would be more practical than a relatively bulky slot for the entire holotape.
In any case, the modelers probably never thought that far ahead.
Even from that point, we should remember that pre-great-war America didn't use any microtransistor technology and making holotapes function like USB hard drives based on lamps while retaining any portability would be near impossible. And the vanilla size is way too big for something that is just a futuristic equivalent of the good ol' floppy disk.
I always got the impression with the fallout3/new vegas ones that you used the 3.5 mm jack on the pipboy glove to interface with a read/write device that was part of the holotape. But in Fallout 1 and 2 Holotapes look very different, so clearly there are different kinds, the fallout 4 tapes seem to be more like 8 track tapes.
Thank you! The best part about this mod is that it makes more sense after seeing the most recent Fallout 4 gameplay, where holotapes are shown to be physically inserted into the pip-boy.
Does this mesh use a resized texture or does it use the vanilla texture size? I ask because there's another holotape mod I enjoy that rejiggers the colour scheme of the original holotape... which I'm afraid might be incompatible. http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/57087/
I would love to combine the two of your mods... giving me a tiny, rusty holotape, but I suspect that would not work.
Super late reply here (my apologies); This mod is simply a resized mesh, no textures were altered. This can be combined with any texture mods you want.

Harder to see too, I love it, thank you :)
would you kindly tell me what texture are you used on the attached screenshots?

They did have microtransistors. Its just that they were very new when the war started.
