About this mod
Fighting Chance adds improved and balanced unique weapons that fill gaps in the vanilla game, neither changing the world or loot, nor clashing with any other mods. Its purpose is to enhance freedom and fun, increasing combat options and giving you a fighting chance after dangerous decisions.

DESCRIPTION:
Fighting Chance is currently minimalist and light-weight. It uses your game's textures (vanilla or modded) to place a number of improved but balanced, and uniquely named weapons around the world. I chose the specific spots carefully, so each weapon can help you be prepared for what's to come, giving you a fighting chance, your fighting chance. There are no similar alternatives nearby (thus the mod's feature of "filling gaps in the vanilla game"), so the mod increases your options and allows you to fight the way you want.
This is also why I am focusing at this stage on weapons' mechanics and features, including things like accuracy and reload speed, rather than new or recolored textures; because I am not just offering variety or more options, I am systematically filling what I see as gaps.
Fighting Chance mod is simple and does not clash with anything.
What I aim to achieve by this mod is giving the player more freedom and fun, by:
1. Offering more combat options, or turning previously unreliable combat paths (like starting with energy weapons) into totally viable combat paths;
2. Making the use of certain weapons more satisfying, effective, and fun;
3. Giving the player a fighting chance after dangerous social or political decisions, like starting trouble with a powerful faction from the start of the journey; and
3. Maintaining balance and fairness.
DETAILS:
It is not so viable to ignore Agility and Guns, and instead, focus on Perception and Energy Weapons from the start of Fallout New Vegas; ever wondered why things had to be so? Well, regardless, no need to wonder anymore; Fighting Chance adds 5 unique energy weapons that are wisely scattered across the map in key locations; and you can pick up the first one in your starting area, Goodsprings.
Ever decided to start trouble with a powerful faction from the beginning of the journey, only to regret the decision later on, because your available guns felt like BB rifles against the heavily armored assassins that keep ambushing you? Regret or fear no more! Fighting Chance gives you a rifle that bridges the gap between the barely helpful Cowboy Repeater and the not-available-yet Hunting Rifle, and places it where you can find it at just the right time.
As an added bonus, these weapons are so ingeniously simple in design that you can repair them with standard guns that have the closest resemblance!
[Feedback is very much welcome. Suggestions for either tweaks or ideas of what the next project or update to work on are much beloved and needed; please tell me what other well-balanced items would be welcome and fill a gap.]
All these weapons have been painstakingly adjusted and tweaked in order to be well-balanced, fairly lore-friendly, and at the same time be slightly or satisfyingly superior to same-level weapons in the game. But keep in mind that, for example, your Energy Weapons skill must be high enough to see the full damage of the energy weapons on PipBoy.
I chose the best models and looks possible, and the ones that are most iron-sights friendly, using vanilla textures and models, which will take advantage of any weapon retexturing mods you have installed. I also produced the mod in such a way that it does not clash any other mods, whether weapon mods or otherwise. Even removed the re-colored textures of Sheriff's Fighting Chance because they looked buggy or messed up with Millenia's excellent mod, "Weapon Retexture Project - WRP". But may get into a retexturing, or at least recoloring part of the project later on, after most meaningful gaps have been filled, hopefully with the help and comments of the community.
WEAPONS & LOCATIONS:
When I say "improved" in the weapon descriptions, I mean improved in several ways, including accuracy and reload time, while still maintaining balance. So far, I have added the following weapons:
• Sheriff's Fighting Chance: A standard rifle that bridges the gap between the Cowboy Repeater & the Hunting Rifle, and aspires to be superior to many alternatives from DLCs and such. I will not disclose its location. I'm sure you can guess where it is. No spoilers for others!
• Pewpew Fighting Chance: An energy pistol that is brilliant for the start of the game. Think of it as an improved "Weathered 10mm Pistol", which also uses the re-generating MF breeder ammo. Find this sexy toy just outside Goodsprings Schoolhouse; someone thought they could hide it before escaping, but they did not plan on you poking around that area, did they? Hah!
• Plasmic Pewpew: A more powerful energy pistol. Think of it as a slightly improved ".44 magnum revolver". Find this baby in Novac Motel Lobby. Careful timing, though.
• iKin Do Dis O Day: An energy automatic rifle that is itching to spit supersonic blobs of death long time...actually endlessly, theoretically speaking at least. With this machine, you kin do dis o day. Look, it uses MF breeder ammo, and it's a rifle; need I say more? Yes? Mawr?! Well, think of it as a slightly improved Cowboy Repeater on steroids; the Cowboy Repeater does not actually "repeat" much, but this baby...ratatatats long time, o day. Find it hidden in the building next to Nash's house in Primm; I saw a Powder Ganger studying it curiously (and cluelessly) as he entered the building.
• Genius's Fighting Chance: This one is only for geniuses. Stupid people need not apply, or dare touch that sacred relic, lest they contaminate its brilliance. Racism against the race of stupid people allowed. In any case, I am sure only brave geniuses will be able to find this shiny [and] acquire it safely in the Assembly floor of Nipton Town Hall. Think of it as a shinier, cooler Hunting Rifle.
• Headshotting Apparatus: The king of the energy beasts! This monster is strictly for sharpshooting headhunters, literally. Again, it is like an improved Sniper Rifle. No, it's like what happens when a Sniper Rifle becomes a sports car, you see? Find this beast in the VIP lounge in Lucky 38 Casino.
• More? You tell me what more would be good and needed. I'll ask around and tell you what I find.
