Having trouble finding all the recipes for Tales of the Burning Sands?

If you use the NVEC mod, no matter how hard you look you will most likely wind up a few recipes short. This is because of an inherant incompatibility between a few of the scripts in those two mods. This patch fixes that issue, allowing NVEC users to find those missing recipes from Tales from the Burning Sands!



What does this mod do?

This mod overrides the NVEC scripts attached to the following pickable plant activators. These overrides keep the original functionality of highsight's Dynamic Herbalism mod (that is included with the "Complete" NVEC version) while incorporating the opportunities to learn new cooking recipes and experience other surprises that Puce Moose included with Tales from the Burning Sands.

  • Barrel Cactus
  • Honey Mesquite
  • Jalapeno
  • Maize
  • Nevada Agave


Requirements

  • The New Vegas Script Extender (NVSE), version 2.10b (or newer), must be installed and loaded with the game.
  • NVEC Complete.esm or NVEC Complete + NVSE.esm. Please be sure to download the patch for the correct version on the download page. This patch should work for NVEC versions at least as far back as 3.0; however, it has only been tested with version 3.4b.
  • Tales from the Burning Sands.esm version 1.31a or later.


Installation

Using either the Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM), or the Nexus Mod Manager (recommended):
Install in exactly the same way you would install any other mod.

Install manually:
  • Extract the .7z file into your Fallout New Vegas 'Data' folder.
  • Open whichever mod manager you use and make sure Tales-NVECComplete...ScriptPatch.esp is ticked.



Uninstallation

Using either the Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM), or the Nexus Mod Manager (recommended):
Uninstall in exactly the same way you would uninstall any other mod.

Uninstall manually:
Delete the Tales-NVECComplete...ScriptPatch.esp file from your Fallout New Vegas 'Data' folder.


Load Order

This really doesn't matter. Just make sure that it further down in the load order than NVEC and Tales (and since these are both .esm files, you won't really be able to misplace this patch anyway.)

Issues/Conflicts

None so far. However, please note that any other mod that changes the plant activators will conflict with this mod.

Troubleshooting

  • "I am getting a CTD whenever I start the game." The likeliest cause for this is that your patch and NVEC versions do not match. Make sure that you downloaded and installed the correct patch.
  • "This patch is broken. I'm not finding any recipes!" First off, the Tales recipes generally require the Courier to have obtained the "Gourmand" perk. This is only received at the end of Chapter One. If you've done everything the eccentric guy on the cliff outside of Novac has asked of you, up to and including fixing the elevator (and what follows), you should receive the perk. Check your pipboy if you are not sure. If you don't have it, there's your problem.
  • "I'm still not finding all the recipes!" That might be because they are simply hard to find. They generally require you to harvest a specific plant/loot a specific creature. In addition to that, a little bit of luck is involved. It might take a few tries or more to get that recipe you were looking for.

Future Plans

  • If Tales from the Burning Sands adds more recipes tied to plant activators, I will update this mod. Otherwise, none would likely be required.
  • Six scripts is hardly worth a coveted plugin slot in most players' load orders. I wrote this patch with the intention that, if it were generally helpful to enough players, it might eventually be included in someone else's larger compatibility patch. If that happens at some point, I will deprecate this mod and provide a link at the top of this page to redirect traffic to the location of the new fix.

The content of this mod is owned by me, insofar as I can be said to own anything that I cut and pasted from other authors' mods to make them play nicely together. If anyone desires to use this as a part of a larger compatibility patch and has the permission of the original mod authors, please let me know.
