Nuka Cola contains large quantities of caffeine and sugar which tends to actually dehydrate instead of hydrate, I believe this is what the game developers had in mind when they decided whether Nuka Cola should give a positive or negative effect.

I never knew that, that was why they chose to make it negative. But either way I just didn't like becoming more thirsty from drinking it, I just find it weird drinking it makes you more thirsty I mean it's not salt water. ;P

Carbonated beverages, like pop/cola, and alcohol have the effect of dehydrating you so it makes perfect sense.

Well yes I get that alcohol makes you thirsty I know it dehydrates you in real life. But when you have a soda in real life do you find yourself suddenly in need of a glass of water? Because I sure don't and your body can filter out other ingredients to at least give you some hydration.

If the game had some way to make thirst values differ depending on how desperate you are, that'd be something. Like, Nuka Cola is okay, unless you're near death. Then you need water, right? Unfortunately, as awesome as that would be, I can't see it ever happening. I'm not sure if it's even possible with the framework.

You know that's actually a great idea, sadly I don't know anything about scripting right now, or like you said if it's even possible.

      Actually:

"Please allow me to education you. Soda Dehydration IS A MYTH. The vanilla deyhydration of Nuka-cola is based on fiction.

1: The diuretic effects of caffeine are trivial and only show an increase in urine out put and when consumed by people with no tolerance to it. Even then its not enough to counter the fluid contained within the drink. Regular users of Caffeine quickly develop a tolerance to the diuretic effects making the whole issue void.

2: Sodium(Salt) doesn't automatically dehydrate you. The reason sea water is so bad is your body can't produce urine from it without drawing more moisture from the rest of your body. Sea Water on average is 3.5% Salt. A can of say Mt. Dew weighs 373grams(not counting the can). 65miligrams of this is Sodium. This rounds out to 0.017%. Which is practically nothing. In low amounts sodium actually HELPS hydrate your body absorb and retain water its why you find Sodium in Gatorade in twice the amount you'd find it in coke. Even Skim Milk has more sodium in one cup then your typical can of soft drink.

3: This just leaves sugar which can cause dehydration if your body doesn't take in enough fluids to break it down. But its nowhere near enough to counter the fluid contained within the soft drink. Unless your body is incapable of breaking down sugar properly. So unless the Courier is diabetic there is no reason Nuka Cola shouldn't be almost entire as hydrating as water except for ignorance.

Alcohol on the other hand is another matter. Part of being hungover is the dehydration caused by the alcohol. But this is a much more complex matter then with Soda that I don't care to research."

I appreciate you spreading this information.
I learned that a decade ago and am confused to this day by people telling me otherwise.

      Maybe Nuka-Cola is oil-based instead of water-based?

      No. No they don't. That's a myth.

Source: I literally drink nothing but high-caffeine, high-sugar soda, and have survived on it for roughly five years.

Speaking as a pure lorefag, Nuka cola definitely hydrate, aka has H2O value as a drink. because it demonstrate its presence throughout the series.

In Fallout 1 and 2, the lack of pure water is strong and heavily felt. No such thing unless you can have access to prewar purification chip (and approriate machine). HOW on earth would wastelanders survive through such lack?

The answer is ofcourse nuka cola (and sunset sarparilla), its vending machine, and the unmentioned method to refil such vendor. And even if nuka is not as hydrating as pure water, it's still much better than dirty water because it doesnt have rad effect.

      they didnt balance it though.
sunset sarsaparilla should have had -20 or more  to sleep or something.

The reason the soda removes hydration is because in real life sodas have the same effect, they aren't water after all!

No they don't they still hydrate you and no soda has water in it just like ANY OTHER DRINKABLE LIQUiD IN THE FUCKING WORLD!!!
Sofdrinks contain between 85% and 99% water...

Great mod, I guess back then people had a lessor understanding of dietary facts but rest assured Soda actually DOES Hydrate you, so does beer btw.

    Awesome mod!

I'd like to bring an error to your attention though, the mod name inside mod managers is labeled as "Nuka Cola and Sunset Sarsaparilla Restore Thirst - Nuka Cola Fix", but in actual fact you still have to download both versions. Writing this comment I can see now that it's just the name of the mod and then the cola version but this could easily confuse people.

Can I just say thank you for this mod? I get alcohol and food dehydrating you, but the sodas should definitely replace at least some thirst. I can actually play hardcore mode now! Thank you!

Are we going to nitpick about the hydration effects from soda when we can also drink salt water in game and restore thirst?

What I think might be interesting would be if sodas had a reasonably high hydration effect, and a secondary effect that increases dehydration over time - not quite equal to the full amount recovered. Then, have a challenge perk earned by recovering health with sodas that removes the penalty. Basically, acknowledging that soda can leave you thirsty again quickly, but that people who drink a lot adjust to it.

Why would you remove the rads? Do you have any idea why it's called "Nuka Cola"?

How about adding the effect to ice cold nuka cola, there are a couple of mods that allow for chilled nuka colas and sunset sarsaparillas . JoshNZ has one of those mods, it affect the sunsets and nuka colas, but not the chilled ones. Do this I will remove his mod and use yours.
Heck, add a -5 for it being chilled, lol. Nothing better on a hot day than a cold soda or a cold beer. Hmmm, that is a thought, cold beer in the game, reducing thirst, adding energy, etc. Just a thought.

There I just added another file that works for Sunset Sarsaparilla as well I made it to have an effect of -25 H2O, I never even thought to do Sunset Sarsaparilla, I play it with a bunch of other mods and one of the must of made it give me a 25 value too.

I just relised that pure water will give -150,why not make these give -75,half that of pure water?
and why not make the 2 files one?

I just made them separate in case someone else like me, uses Project Nevada or something else like that, that way they won't have any conflicts like they would if they get both.
Also in my opinion I think it would be a bit OP if it was half of water's hydration value so I don't think I'll make that change sorry
