About this mod

An oversized semi-automatic based on the one Alucard uses in Hellsing, plus an optional non-canon 'mini' version of it

Permissions and credits
WHAT IT DOES

It adds two guns:

1. A unique oversized pistol, based very loosely on Alucard's .454 Casull gun. It is not an exact copy, though, because that's not even possible: the gun is drawn differently every time. Just in the first episode alone, it has three different shapes for the slide, for example. So I've done my own take on it, also constrained by the game's animations and how it sits in the hand and such.

It has a 10 inch barrel (in the anime it says 10 inch on the side of the gun in the small print), and weighs 12 pounds, including the ammo. The barrel is pretty accurately 13mm caliber, to match the number stated by Alucard himself. (Real .454 ammo is only 11.5mm.) It ejects custom brass that's 35.1mm long (same as a .454 Casull round), wide enough for a 13mm bullet, and rimless like the ejected casings in the anime.

It is fully animated, using the standard game animations. I also at least tried to make it look a little old. The slide and frame are heavily scratched and in places a little stained, especially darkened around the places you'd put your hands on it. Like for example the rear part of the slide, which you paw every time you reload. It also has some faint traces of incipient rusting, especially around where Alucard puts his mouth on it.

It needs 10 Strength and 100 skill for the full accuracy and damage, although at least the strength requirement can be fudged with perks and implants. You can lower the Str requirement by 2 points with a perk, you can get +2 Str with power armour, plus another point with a perk and another point with an implant, so basically an extreme build could meet the requirements while having only 4 Str.

For ammo, it uses .454 Casull ammo from either the CASE mod or the CaliberX mod. Optionally, if you can't or won't get CASE or CaliberX to run, a vanilla version exists that shoots standard 12.7mm ammo instead. (Alucard does state it shoots a 13mm bullet, and I figure 12.7mm is close enough for government work, if all else failed.)

It's repaired with 10mm pistols, or rather, with anything you could repair a 10mm pistol with. Repair kits and a certain perk should still work, as you'd expect.

The gun is accurate, has high range, has high damage per shot, does double damage to limbs and has twice the chance to crit. On a crit, it knocks down. For damage and DPS, it's about on par with the Ranger Sequoia from the base game with the cowboy perk, and it also has a low rate of fire and it IS heavy, so I don't consider it particularly unbalanced.

Also, this is not a silent gun. It's very loud, and it has a big muzzle flash. Don't be surprised if every fiend within half a mile suddenly notices you.

2. A shorter version in 10mm, called the "Baby Joshua", with only an 8 inch barrel and 10 round magazine. It's not just a scaling down though, it really is a different mesh. It does less damage, but cycles faster and has only 5 str and 50 skill requirements.

This one really has nothing to do with Hellsing, other than being a "miniature" version of the real thing, for people who wanted a smaller version, or more rounds per magazine, or such.

MODDING THEM

Both guns can take two custom mods, which are visible in the mesh:

1. Titanium Nitride (TiN) coated barrel. Golden barrel like in the anime, and increases durability a little. Not by a huge amount though (TiN burns at 800 Celsius, so the coating in the barrel WILL degrade with use), so if you don't want a yellow barrel, don't install the mod.

You have to buy the right caliber TiN barrel from Chet or Miguel. The 13mm barrel goes into the Casull, the 10mm barrel obviously goes into the 10mm "Baby Joshua".

2. Suppressor. Big can in front to sound-dampen it. They're not used by Alucard in the anime, and they turn the already big guns into something frikken rifle sized, but you have the choice, if you want to. More options are good, right?

They use the vanilla game suppressors. The Baby Joshua takes a standard 10mm pistol suppressor, and the Casull takes a 12.7mm pistol suppressor. (I figure, 12.7mm is close enough to 13mm, with a bit of file work.) I didn't add any extra suppressors to vendors, so just find them like in the vanilla game. The Gun Runners are probably your best bet.

REQUIREMENTS

If you want to actually shoot .454 Casull ammo, true to Hellsing canon, you will NEED either CASE or or CaliberX for the ammo. Your choice which, as both have .454 Casull ammo. CASE seems to have more variants, which means you can actually use all the explosive and incendiary rounds that Alucard mentions, while CaliberX seems to be used by more other mods. But, anyway, it's required that you have one or the other. If you try to run the mod without the master file, your game WILL crash.

You can find them here:
CASE: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/43915
CaliberX: http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/39981

If somehow you can't get either working or can't be bothered, the AlucardCasullVanilla plugin doesn't require anything at all.

OPTIONAL TEXTURE

If you're bothered by the writing on the gun, an alternate texture without the writing is included. Just go into your game's Data/Textures/Weapons/AlucardCasull, and delete the file "CasullSlideWithPort.dds". Rename the file "CasullSlideWithPortNoWriting.dds" to "CasullSlideWithPort.dds". Do the same for "CasullSlideWithPort_n.dds" and "CasullSlideWithPortNoWriting_n.dds". It's that simple. (And if you somehow mess up, just unpack the mod again to undo any changes you made, so no need to worry much.)

NOTE FOR THE PURISTS

Although it IS the weapon of an anime character, its shape is based on the American M1911, and oversized guns are routinely used in Hollywood movies too. E.g., who can forget Dirty Harry's Smith & Wesson Model 29, which in the meantime is available in 10-1/2 inch barrel, actually longer than the barrel on this one. Or in semi-auto, the Desert Eagle has a 10 inch barrel version.

Etc.

Basically it's a very western weapon, and weapons this size do exist and are featured in movies all the time.

But, whoever is bothered by it, isn't forced to download it :p

HOW TO GET IT

The .454 Casull gun and a little ammo for it (slightly more if you have the Scrounger perk) can be bought from Mick and Ralph's in the Freeside in New Vegas. (If you just started the game and don't know where New Vegas is, don't worry, you'll get there along the main quest.)

You may also want to check with Chet in Goodsprings, Contreras at Camp McCarran or Miguel in Westside, for a little more .454 Ammo, but the keywords are: a little. Miguel's and Contreras' box are even out in the open, so if you're any good at sneaking and have a bobby pin, you can even get a five finger discount on ammo.

And, of course, if you have any mods which redistribute that ammo to loot lists as such (CASE has such an option, for example, and with CaliberX it's automatically activated by this mod), you can also find more ammo naturally in the game.

The 10mm "Baby Joshua" can be bought from Mick and Ralph's, or from Chet, or from Contreras, or from the Westside pawnshop.

The titanium nitride (TiN) barrels can be bought from Chet's, or Contreras, or from the Westside pawnshop.

The suppressors are vanilla items (even though they use a custom mesh when installed), so just keep an eye out for them just like in the vanilla game, I guess. Try the Gun Runners, maybe?

HOW TO INSTALL IT

Search for "set bInvalidateOlderFiles=0" in your Fallout.ini file and change it to "set bInvalidateOlderFiles=1", if you haven't done so already.

Extract the archive, with directories, in your game's "Data" folder. Select only one of the three versions in the list of plugin files in the launcher, depending on whether you have CASE or CaliberX or none.

(Your choice will also be reflected in the weapon name in the game, so you can check quickly which version you have.)

If you have any texture problems, try invalidating the archive, for example with FOMM.

HOW TO UNINSTALL IT

Delete the .esp file from your Data directory.

Delete the AlucardCasull directory in both the Meshes/Weapons and Textures/Weapons directories.

CONFLICTS

The mod itself shouldn't conflict with anything.

LICENSE

For my own work, I release it in the public domain. You can do anything you wish with it. I would, of course, appreciate it if you give credit, but if not, so be it, I can live with that too.

Note though that the clip, trigger, hammer, muzzle flash, and animations are Bethesda's, so it's not ok to port those to other games than Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. If you want to port this to another game, you'll have to get a clip, trigger and hammer from some weapon in that game.

VERSION HISTORY

1.08:
Added more of the details (finger rest, slide stop, etc) to be truer to the original
Rectangular hole in the back for the hammer
    Slightly bigger hammer

1.07:
Added some ammo to Contreras at Camp McCarran too
Removed the "Ignored By Sandbox" flags on crates

1.06a:
Fixed the names of the CASE and CaliberX versions
Made the TiN barrels a little shinier

1.06:
Added an optional Titanium Nitride (gold-coloured) barrel, like in the anime
Added the option to put a suppressor on both
Fixed the projectile node of the 10mm pistol

1.05:
Increased the ammo supply even more, since some people seemed to want more. And hey, if you have the caps...
Increased the extra ammo from Scrounger perk even more
Added the vanilla 12.7mm version for people who can't or won't get CASE or CaliberX to work
Added some ammo and the 10mm version to the Westside pawn shop too

1.04:
Redone the back, so it's not a sudden black hole any more
Increased the damage slightly, since it does have some hefty requirements

Redone the writing. The smaller print now stands straight, among other things.
Redone the normal map. The pitted look was pretty bad actually.
Added more ammo to both vendors. You pay good money for it, after all.

1.02:
Removed the tracer flag from the bullets in GECK (it already wasn't visible.)
More natural-looking texture for the silver bullet, IMHO.
    Reduced the number of triangles
Sawed off about 1 inch off the barrel, since in the anime it says 10 inch on the side of the gun
    Redone the handle
Gave it some stains on the grips (I figure wood stains easily.)
Made the steel slightly more stained

1.01:
    First Fallout NV Release
Added a shiny hollow-point silver bullet as a projectile
Reworked the grip so it doesn't look as angular at the back
