    Sticky
Might just need to leave this for now. I'm absorbed in other games and, even though I have NV installed (on my new PC) and played a bit, I've sort of lost interest, let alone modding. One day I really should finish the game (I never have).

If anyone knows how to fix the issues please let me know (forum tab now open for further discussions). At this point I'll leave this as an idea to improve upon. If anyone can get it working as I'd intended it to be (mod title) that'd be great :-)

I recently re-installed the "FNV Ultimate Edition" bought from GOG in October to get the DLC I was missing and I've used the showracemenu several times without noticing my stats being reset.  Maybe it doesn't happen anymore in the latest patched edition of the game?

Hi, Im looking to change my character appearance since I installed CO mod. With this installed is it safe to do without losing perks/special or breaking your char in any sort of way ?
    Thank you

Actually "showracemenu" does work in game, without messing with stats...
You just have to save BEFORE closing the character creation window (you'll need to re-open the consol in order to do that). Then, reload this save, the cosmetic changes will be saved and your skills, perks etc... will be fine I used that trick about one hundred time without any issue.

Anyway, the mirror thing is a very good idea =)

But you can't save using the console when in character creation so how would this exploit work? Is this just something people say works but doesn't actually do it, like really?

Yeah no, for some reason I can't get the save option to appear with the console menu enabled. I follow all kinds of tutorials online and I can't get it to work. I remember I got it working in the past and I told myself 'I must remember how I did thst' sure enough, I follow the same steps and it doesn't work. Either I'm doing something wrong, or this trick is temperamental. My money is on the latter.

you need to use the console command to create a new save. Just type save, followed by whatever you want to name it.

then you exit creation menu to be informed by the game that "you cannot save at this time" and no save was made. >.>

Any way to get the mod ported for fallout 3?

If someone wants to do that, they can. I haven't played or modded New Vegas, let alone 3, for a long time now, so wouldn't be able to if it's possible.

I hope this gets a reply somehow but i have a glitch where when i load my game (eveen when the mod is turned off) it asks edit name, revise character, finishesd- travel onward. But when i press finished it gives me around 30K exp and then after a few seconds pops up again, it's annoying me and i cant even play the game anymore, can someone help?

That's already listed in the description under Known Issues, if selecting Finished. The box just repeats. Even if you make no edits to your character pick another option.

    >As long as I don't get sidetracked too much I'll try and get this sorted within the next week or two.

All encouragement for this. It's a great idea, especially with the mirror trick.

I've recently reinstalled New Vegas and am playing it again. After downloading my own file and looking in it, to see what I was doing, I have an idea on how to fix this up, somewhat. Another mod out there took my idea and implemented it in their own. No one likes a copycat, especially me.
Not sure if I'll add another file here, replace any, or just make a whole new entry. Perhaps another file to seek testers as this entry is more established than a brand new one would be. People might likely still be following this one.

As long as I don't get sidetracked too much I'll try and get this sorted within the next week or two.

So after some fiddling about, it seems that changing race/gender doesn't wipe the level/perks, just as intended-.... But the perks aren't /activated/, per se. It's not just strong back either, anything that changes any of the player's ActorValues loses its effect, such as the +2 STR from Reinforced Spine in Old World Blues. Similarly, Night Person/Solar Powered seems to lose effect. I also have a few other perks from More Perks, FOOK and/or Project Nevada that 'turned off' like this, but it honestly seems to be a global thing.

What would be /really/ nice is if you could somehow implement a For loop that collects all the perks the player owns, then after the menu closes, goes through that list of perks and disables then re-enables each one so they reinitialize properly. I don't know if this is possible with GECK or NVSE though, because admittedly I have like zero experience in those scripts.

I can think of a few perks that this would cause issues with, such as "Friendless" or "Where's my pants" from More Perks, or for that matter, re-enabling Here and Now from the main game would kinda throw another level at the player. But on the other hand, I'd rather mop up two or three minor glitches than go through my list of 30+ perks/challenges and repair each one.

Edit: Also, for whatever reason, one of my mods has seen fit to disable the ability to open console while in ShowRaceMenu, and just save the changes there, but I have no idea which one it is. .-.

Good call. Many perks will be listed, but won't do anything. Whereas others will still work (e.g. Intense Training & Small Frame).

If this mod isn't working for you, here are some "solutions" that may take you a few minutes (they worked for me. Try at your own risk):

Changing only hair or face? Try the other console commands (*save first*): showplasticsurgeonmenu and showbarbermenu.

Otherwise, make your changes, then simply try to remove the failing Perks and re-add them:
      ========
      0. Have access to a list of the "Base ID" codes of the Perks (e.g. on the Fallout Wiki's "New Vegas Perks" page): use a tablet, a photo of the page, or write down the ones you need (if any are from DLCs or mods, you'll need to know the first two digits from their place in the load order). Example: "Strong Back" is 00031dde
      ...
      1. SAVE your game (never hurts to back it up).
      2. Write down your correct SPECIAL & max-weight values (for later comparison).
      3. (in the console type) showracemenu and make your changes.
      * New Save / Quick save (just in case you screw up in the next steps).
      4. Compare SPECIAL (max weight, etc.) with the correct values. You can often deduce which Perks are not working, even though they're still listed among your Perks (e.g. Strong Back, all Implants).
      5. Get the Base ID codes for the failing Perks.

      6. (in the console type) player.removeperk <Base ID code>and hit the "Enter" key.
      *e.g. player.removeperk 00031dde
      7. (in console type) player.addperk <same Base ID>
      *e.g. player.addperk 00031dde
( You may exit the console to see if the Perk has been restored).
      8. Repeat steps 6 & 7 for all the Perks that need to be restored.
      * Compare SPECIAL etc. values with what they should be. If everything looks right, enjoy.
      Save game.

Note: to save time, when in the console you can press the Up-Arrow to have it automatically type the last command you gave it; then use the Left & Right arrows and Backspace or Delete to change just those letters/numbers for each go-around. (This is just like MS DOS or Windows Command Prompt, etc.).
