Followed this guide again after 7 years ago having tried and failed. This time it was a success, I guess I got smarter! XD

Thank you for sharing this guide, it tells you just enough but doesn't stray off too much, at least the NSFW stuff is skipable!

Glad to see this is still being used. the NSFW stuff was added due to request.

And I'm glad you did. I spent a ton of time customizing my Mojave Sex experience since the vanilla sex mod is ass. Some of us find a good in-game sex experience to be more than just a horny whim, it makes the game a lot more immersive.

Hey, I know this guide is old as the hills, but I don't know where else to go. I'm having trouble with the Conditions tab. My companion does not show up as a reference. I've double clicked on her in the reference window and looked in the drop down list. Either way it is not her ID that shows up. I'm thinking it might be Children of the Wasteland. Specifically Mojave CUTE Shop. When I double click, an ID does show up, but it's to an NPC inside the CUTE shop, not my companion's. I've placed her inside the CUTE shop, directly outside the CUTE shop, and a large distance from the CUTE shop. No matter what, it always brings up that ID. If it isn't that, I don't know what it is.

To anyone still having this issue. It's actually simple. Check "Persistent Reference" under the same menu you created the Ref ID. I'd fault the tutorial for not mentioning it, but it looks like the box was automatically checked for the creator. It wasn't for me.

Quick question before I start from scratch again: what is in the esp file? is it blank or...?

    Hai ^^

I used this guide to make what I want to be a follower NPC, i've done everything except write their dialogue. I've done the conditions, choices, flags etc. The text in the info/overall is BLANK.
The reason being, my GECK crashes when I type something in and then click anywhere. I press Ok again, ignoring the [Geck Quit Unexpectedly] window and the dialogue window closes as it supposedly should, but the info remains BLANK. Even going back into the test area reveals that no text has been saved.

So, I've done everything else. Made my NPC, they appear in the world. But the option to hire them doesn't appear.
Is no NPC Dialogue a reason the "I think we should travel together" refuses to appear? Or should it appear anyway and I've done something else wrong? The quest runs in game. The dialogue just wont appear.

Any and all help is appreciated.
As Always, Have a Nice Day :)

The GECK is an ornery program, it's old and doesn't like to work correctly. If you haven't, I would install GECK Extender and NVAC to fix some of the crashing and extend the GECK's usefulness. As for those other issues, you'll just want to double check some things:
Is your follower Hireable variable set to 1?
Did you make sure to condition your dialogue to your NPC?
When you make your dialogue topics, make sure to put some placeholder text for your NPCs responses.

It sounds like this is a GECK issue, but it doesn't hurt to double check your steps.
      Good luck!

      Hai ^^

This is, what I believe to be, mostly a Geck Issue. Yes I have geck extender and NVAC. I've made conditions etc. I simply cannot make NPC response text. No matter what I do, It crashes and won't save text :(

As far as I can tell, that's the only issue.

Edit: Turns out I'd completely missed the conditions for FollowerTacticsDistanceLong XD. Filled it in, triple checked the rest and loaded up the game. Still no follower dialogue. That must confirm that the problem is the lack of response text...which I can't fill in cause Geck \o/

    Thanks you!

All this seemed like mumbo jumbo to me until I used your guide.

I don't know if this is just me but whenever I select a Topic in the Quest Stage, I'm able to pick one but they don't appear in "The List". Does anyone know what this issue could be?

I'm using the Fallout 3 Geck, and I'm just curious if you happened to do idle chatter at all for your dialogue on your companion. I'm currently struggling with mine and trying to figure out how to get her idle chatter to work. Nothing seems to work and no matter how hard I look there's never really any good guides or tutorials on this specific thing. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing wrong as she never wants to say her lines no matter how long I wait. Could you possibly steer me in the right direction on how to get the idle chatter to work? If not, I apologize for wasting your time on this. I'm just trying to go around and ask others for advice on this as I have no clue how to fix this problem and it's honestly driving me up a wall.

I'm late but the way I ended up doing it for my companion in FNV is by making a new quest specifically for idle chatter, and just set a timer in the quest script to make my companion say something random at certain intervals. The script would end up looking something like:

      Spoiler:
      Show

      scn mycoolscript

      short timer

      begin gamemode
      ?if timer >= 60
      ??AAAMyCompanionREF.Say FunnyLine
      ??set timer to 0
      ?elseif timer == 0
??set timer to timer + GetSecondsPassed
      ?endif
      end

This Oblivion scripting tutorial can probably explain it better than I can tbh. Good luck out there!

I'm experiencing a few issues with the mini scripts. Under FollowersFiredYes, I keep getting these warnings:

"SCRIPTS: Script 'DefaultCompiler', line 2: Unknown variable or function 'Waiting'."
"SCRIPTS: Script 'DefaultCompiler', line 2: Missing variable name in set command."

I've followed the guide completely and I'm not sure what the issue could be.
I'm new to this, so any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I figured out the issue. I assigned the NPC's REF to the fog surrounding her. After re-assigning the REF to the NPC, everything fell into place, for the most part.

I'm experiencing a similar issue here, could you explain exactly how you did this if you can remember?

I can tell you, BreadMan, because I just figured it out myself.
Hopefully this information is still useful to you even at this late date.

What you want to do is load up the cell where you placed your NPC. Look for their name in the panel that lists all of the placed objects in each cell.

Right click on their name and select Edit.

---If you're like me, then where you ended up being stuck was with the Reference aspect. I thought that the Reference ID was something that was just given to any newly created NPC/object, but that is not the case.---

When you look at the box that pops up after clicking Edit, you will see that there is in fact no Reference ID for your NPC. You must give them one. Choose what you like, but adding REF at the end of it is purely optional--which was the confusing part for me.

Once you have given them a Reference ID, close the box and save your esp. Now go back to your dialogue and edit all of your script bits to call upon your new ID.

This was my Hiring script. Just highlight the CustomReferenceIDGoesHere bit and paste in your own custom ID. The script should work fine.

      Set CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.Waiting to 0
      Set CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.IsFollowingDefault to 1
      Set CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.IsFollowingLong to 0
      Set CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.CombatStyleRanged to 1
      Set CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.CombatStyleMelee to 0
      Set CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.HasBeenHired to 1SetPlayerTeammate 1
      SetIgnoreFriendlyHits 1
      CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.evp

      --------------------------------------------------
Edit: I glanced at your post history. Perhaps the FollowerFiredYes script I made would be more useful to you.
      Here you go:

      Set CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.Waiting to 0
      Set CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.HasBeenHired to 0
      Set CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.L38 to 0
      Set CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.IsFollowingDefault to 0
      Set CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.IsFollowingLong to 0
      CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.SetPlayerTeammate 0
      CustomReferenceIDGoesHere.evp
