UPDATE: New version which now works for every weapon that the Grunt perk should cover. Not just some, all of them. Every. Single. One. Even the Mercenary's Grenade Rifle. It also eliminates a few weapons that shouldn't have been covered, like the 12.7mm SMG, but which I accidentally included. Oops.

FURTHER UPDATE: To make this clear, this mod ONLY ALTERS HONEST HEARTS, but still catches weapons from other DLCs (and other mods entirely). It does not require any other DLC to function. No, I am not full of crap. Yes this works. All the affected DLC weapons place themselves in various existing FNV lists that allow them to be categorized as the perk needs.

Ahhh, the Grunt perk. Quite possibly the most useful perk since Cowboy, at least if you like automatic weapons or explosives.It's a wonderful boost for an already wonderful set of weapons, but it's not perfect. Tragically, because it's a DLC perk, it cannot affect items from other DLC content, as was explained by J.E. Sawyer.

Here's the thing: he's wrong.

Thanks to some forward-thinking on the part of the devs, New Vegas has a number of Form Lists which keep track of different types of weapons. For example, one of these lists tracks all (sub)machine guns, which are obviously affected by the Grunt perk. What you may not know is that every DLC adds its weapons to these lists where appropriate. Short version: the Bozar is added to this list, as are a few other assault rifle-ish weapons. The Grunt perk now applies to all weapons found on this list which are not SMGs, in addition to the normal list of weapons. Similar adjustments have been made to the perk to account for Grenade Launchers and Grenade Rifles.


And now, by request, a full list of all DLC weapons that this bugfix makes work with the Grunt perk:

Dead Money:
- Automatic Rifle (with Dead Money Equipment Fix or YUP)

Lonesome Road:
- Great Bear Grenade Rifle
- Red Victory Grenade Rifle

Gun Runners' Arsenal:
- 25mm Grenade APW
- Assault Carbine (GRA)
- Bozar

Mercenary Pre-Order Pack:
- Mercenary's Grenade Rifle


NOTES

This fix does NOT require any other DLC packages in order to work, nor does it require DLC-specific packages. Technically you can run this fix with only the Honest Hearts add-on installed and it will function correctly.

This fix should allow the perk to work correctly for ANY weapon that matches the perk's description. This includes weapons added by other mods, provided they have been added to the appropriate New Vegas form lists. The only exception to this is if some mod adds an additional type of Frag Grenade or Combat Knife, as there are no lists which track only Frag Grenades and/or Combat Knives. Fortunately, the likelihood of that happening is pretty damn low.

Because people will ask, I have deliberately not included the Bowie Knife from Lonesome Road in this fix. Why? Because it's not a Combat Knife, and adding it to the list of Grunt weapons would make it affected by BOTH the Grunt and Cowboy perks. It doesn't need to be that powerful.

Due to an existing bug in the Dead Money DLC, this fix will not work with the Automatic Rifle unless a third-party fix is used. It just happens that I have made just such a bugfix, which is also included in several bugfix compilations. You may want to use it anyway on general principles, since it fixes a whole host of other problems that the Dead Money DLC has.
