why is it always extremely old and quite frankly bad (mostly) music for all these kind of mods? you do know that the fallout universe dosent end in the 1940's right? the great war didnt happen until 2077. theres no reason to have ALL the music be ancient trash tier music. bethesda just does it because the music is free/dirt cheap to license.
It sucks that the music isn't to your liking, but the 30s/40s/50s music is integral to the Fallout setting (due to the world of Fallout being different from ours - see 'divergence' on the Fallout wiki - the music you hear on the radio *is* what was popular in 2077). You're the first person I've seen complain about it, and I've been a Fallout fan for decades at this point. If you look hard enough you can find several mods on the Nexus that add metal and more modern music to the game, and you could always play your own stuff in the background! I think there's also a mod that lets you set up a custom radio station with your own tracks.
Also, there's a Fallout game for the PS2 called Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel that you could play! It has Slipknot and Killswitch Engage in the soundtrack. But it's terrible. And non-canon. :p
its really not essential to the game at all. its in fact outright insane to assert that 100+ year old music was even known at that point. none of this music was timeless or good by any degree, it was just the flavor of the day...back in a very specific time period, afterwhich literally nobody even cared.
my point is that adding a bunch of samey-sounding old-timey trash songs dosent fit the game any better, because once again, these are 100+ year old songs by the start of the great war, and would absolutely not be the popular music of the time.
@raven you ARE aware that the original games only had 2 licensed songs, right? fo1 started and ended with "maybe" by the ink spots, and fo2 had "a kiss to build a dream on" by luis armstrong in the same position. the rest of the music in the games is atmospheric background noise. fo2 even has references to songs from the 80's and late 90's.
this whole "music stopped being made in the 1940s, and noone ever made any again" aesthetic is something bethesda went with because it was dirt cheap to license all this ancient music nobody knew or cared about anymore. its absolutely not something the original series had.
Dude what are you even talking about? Fallout takes place in an alternate universe. It's retrofuturism at it's finest. If you're trying to make the claim that more, modern music actually exists in Fallout universe, then I take it you also forgot about the fashion, architecture and culture that ALL have a strong 40s/50s aesthetic, which runs rampant throughout the series. It's one of Fallout's main identities, and you sound ignorant trying to convince everyone that is not the case.
@bear the original fallout games had almost none of that. the whole "retrofuturism" thing was entirely made up by bethesda to cash in on the STALKER craze that was going on when they released FO3. it just so happens that fallout as a series was a complete flop before then, so all the modern fallout fans pretending their OG fallout fans, like you, try to pretend that bethesda didnt just make everything up.
They hated Aklaseltzer because they told them the truth.
Fr I would really love to see a music mod that goes for something a bit more unique, maybe tries to think of how music would develop. What sort of music would exist in the post-post-apocalyptic Mojave. New societies and cultures have developed, there's no reason they'd be listening to music from over 300 years ago, and not performing or creating music of any kind, just because Todd Howard figured out a good source of royalty free music.
I mean, yes, Fallout 1 and 2 used a song from the Ink Spots and Louis Armstrong (respectively) but in cutscenes. It's not like there was any implication that that's what actual ordinary people were listening to in-universe.
" It's not like there was any implication that that's what actual ordinary people were listening to in-universe." indeed! in fact its quite the opposite, fallout 2 and to a lesser extent 1, had multiple references to rock and roll and punk rock music, with almost nothing indicating a pre-40's type of culture aside from a few old timey looking appliances.
Dang that's a real bummer that you don't enjoy some classic country western music. It fits extremely well with the setting being that it's in the western United States and Vegas in particular. And don't forget that what you consider 'ancient trash tier music' paved the way for and allowed modern music to evolve into what it is today. You gotta respect the classics my dude.
I say the best of both worlds would be great, I enjoy the oldies music in Fallout and I also love newer stuff too. If you didn't know, Josh Sawyer recorded some songs of him singing for the Lonesome Drifter to sing in the Tops after Talent Pool. Amazing stuff, more effort being put into something like that would be great.
Besides, there is a mod that allows for custom radio, so you could just do that lol. I am searching for such a mod in TTW.
people who make mods are good mods, but write terrible instructions for them ...Wasn't it possible to just make 1 installer for all 100 (85) songs? So that it can be simply installed through the mod manager and everything worked. Why break it down into a million parts? Why complicate things so much ?! Why didn't you split the mod into 85 parts then? Make a separate esp for each song!
A good mod is a terrible adaptation. The instruction is understood only by the one who made this mod. Let him use it himself Thanks!
I will agree, the instructions are confusing but the attitude is not necessary at all. Simply ask for help if you don't understand. There's never a need to be rude.
I will try to explain the instructions a bit more clear for anyone having a hard time with them:
To know what pack(s) to install, check their download descriptions. Each esp [20 to 100] describes the number of TOTAL tracks that play on the Mojave Music Radio. Unmodded MMR has 15 songs playing on the station.
By installing MojaveExtended20.esp, you are adding songs #1-5 to the rotation [for a total of 20 available].
MojaveExtended40.esp adds songs #6-25 [for a total of 40 available songs].
MojaveExtended60.esp adds songs #26-45 [for a total of 60 available songs].
MojaveExtended80.esp adds songs #46-65 [for a total of 60 available songs].
Lastly, MojaveExtended100.esp adds songs #66-85 [for a total of 100 available songs].
Each .esp contains a set of tracks AND includes tracks added from the previous tiers. So.. if you want to installALL 85 SONGS added in this mod, download packs 1-4, and select the MojaveExtended100.esp.
God, I miss the days of the internet, pre-Reddit, where communicating on said internet didn't require the same code of conduct as interacting with kindergarteners. The OP is clearly frustrated, and rightly so, the directions were written when modding NV was half-assed at best.
When you create anything it's very easy to lose the perspective of a new person interacting with it since you have such a intimate understanding of how it works, it's easy to underestimate how hard it is to achieve that understanding for a different person.
I can't get this stupid thing to work. Just plays the vanilla songs. I merged all the downloads together, only have the 100 .esp checked... Still nothing.
it has to be music thats in the public domain. not a lot of choices there for good music unfortunately. i think the mod author did a pretty good job selecting some good tracks all things considered.
Is there a way to make it so that radios you find in stores and stuff are playing Mojave Music Radio? I never listen to my Pip Boy radio, I was hoping to add variety to the radio the NPCs in the world play.
