This excellent mod is included in the Essential DLC Enhancements mod, but I just wanted to give you a shout-out for it! It's such a nice touch on which to end the DLC, and it's moving, heartfelt, and in character for either Joshua or Daniel. Essential DLC Enhancements also rescripted Daniel's letter to say "child of God" instead of "man of God," which is admittedly both more player-character neutral as well as a common refrain/self-identification within real-world Mormonism (the precursor to the post-apocalyptic New Canaanites) anyway. Great work on the original mod, Latexschlampe! 👍 Endorsed. :)

Crap, I finished HH. Can anyone tell me what Joshua Graham said for supporting him?

I know it's been years but I just downloaded this mod this 2023 so sorry if it's a bit late 😅

But here if you help Joshua:

" And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces; and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged; for I will destroy her speedily; yea, for I will be merciful unto my people, but the wicked shall perish. "

" I thank you for your help in eradicating the enemies of Zion. You delivered God's wrath to those unworthy of his mercy. Zion will always remember you and if the need be, unleash it's wrath on those that may wish to harm you. "

" Consider the contents of this crate our token of friendship. May these weapons and clothes serve you In your journey ahead; and may God watch over you. "

      - Graham

P.S. I dunno if the author would be upset if I uploaded this tho. 🤔

The quote from Joshua's note, if it even is a quote sounded like it's actually from the Bible itself. If so, what's it from?

It's a quote from the book of mormon. 2 Nephi, chapter 23, 22.

I see. I wasn't able to find where it exactly came from, even searching one of the setences "And the wicked shall perish" yielded something different than the quote.

Also, someone else already stated this but Daniel's note at the end always refer you to as a "true man of God" regardless of your gender. I don't suppose you could make it so it'd correctly identify you as a woman if you're playing as a female character?

Nah, I'm not going to change it anymore (not really in the mood for FNV modding - also I forgot almost all of that and it would took me a bit to get back into it).
However, Tagaziel already replied to that before - the "man" in this case is meant as shortform of "human" and thus gender-neutral. It's similar to saying "I am but a mere man" which also means "I am just a human."

I think that's what he said because he didn't know to identify what gender you're playing as because still, it'd be plain weird being called a man if you're female. I don't suppose there's something you can do to the script I can add to this mod so if you're playing as a female character, it'd properly identify you as a woman?

Pretty sure it's not, because my requirement for him was to write the letters gender neutral, exactly to avoid situations like this. :p
Personally I really don't see the issue here.

If you really want a male/female differentiation, you'd have to add a completely new note / text for that and change the conditions accordingly. I haven't looked at the script since 2011, so I don't remember what's all connected there. Also, sadly the mod is barely recognized by people, so I don't feel the motivation to get back into it again.

Then why didn't he simply just use something like "person of God" instead of "man of God"? That certainly would sound much more gender-neutral and make the note less implicit to your sex. Ah well, at least I still have FNVEdit to modify any mod I want.

So I finally got around to modifying scripts, I can now make Daniel properly identify your gender on the note when you take his path and compete all optional quests, as in he would correctly call you a woman if you're female. I used GetIsSex to identify whether you're male or female.

You told me to make a patch, and that's what I already did for myself. I wasn't trying to be "cringe" whatsoever, why are you mad?

You're just being very annoying, the creator obviously didn't want to change it because they already saw the text as gender-neutral, your interpretation is just that, an interpretation. You want to change it so badly? Then do it, which is what you did, so now you can stop pestering someone who hasn't worked on this mod in 10 years.

If that's what you want, fine. I'll shut myself up now, and never give feedback on old mods like this again.

I hope you're happy, and I also hope you're glad I'm not wasting time talking with rude assholes like you.

I wanted to drop by and say thank you for the absolutely wonderful letters.

I just finished Honest Hearts last night. I didn't think that any DLC could make me feel more desolate and empty then Fallout 3's The Pitt did, but Honest Hearts certainly changed my mind.

It's not just the wacky pacing and lack of time to get to know the characters or appreciate the cultures of the different tribes, but also the way it just doesn't trust you to do anything.

For example, on the very first meeting with Follows-Chalk they zoom the camera in from 50 feet away. Then the same thing happens again when meeting Joshua Graham. ZOOM that camera in, clearly we don't trust you to walk into a room by yourself.

And then near the end--Joshua just vanishes into thin air so he can be teleported into the final area. You get lulled into the sense that the game finally trusts you enough to let you travel there on your own. You start to edge around a dark corner, bracing yourself and then--you appear to flash in and out of existence as the game tries to drop you into the perfect location to watch the cut-scene between Joshua and Salt-Upon-Wounds.

"Let's go and talk to Daniel...." says Joshua when all is said and done.

"Okay, sounds good--whaaa!" you cry out as you suddenly find yourself near the Southern Passage. What the heck? This cannot be how this DLC was originally intended to go. It just can't.

Sorry for venting. I just really wanted to love this DLC. Luckily your beautifully written letters do help a bit to assuage the emptiness of the finale.

Oh, just a friendly notice for anyone who might find that the farewell letter has not spawned: Check to see if you are using the Joshua Graham - Fully-Voiced Companion by LegionaryH. These two mods unfortunately conflict. Depending on your load order, either Joshua will spawn in, or the final goodbye letter will.

Ah, sham, that's just storytelling devices. Just like this letter. I get if you don't appreciate it and rather see some different approach to scenes the game designers wanted to deliver, but it's not like it's some kind of failure, it's used in many games, including most of the Bethesda games, sometimes you just want to create a cinematic scene, and for that you need the player to be at perfect location, etc. If you just would walk, for example, to the Salt-Upon-Wound execution, you might only hear part of what was supposed to be said, or miss something, because the scene would be happening no matter what. It's okay for mid game moments, but for culminations it's a bad tone when the player can be just "late to his own scene."
And the reason why you "weren't trusted" to first talk to Chalk yourself is because you're in the middle of the fight, you just got attacked by tribals, and then there's another tribal over there, if you aren't forced to talk with him straight away you might not even realize he's a friendly and shoot him and screw it up. It's a thing that some players actually did,  those who were sniping around, and that's one of the reasons why friendly fire happens in real life.
As for Burned Man, I would presume the developer didn't want you to just wonder around before you talk to the guy, and it's part of the moment, the guy wants to talk to you, he's not there like "Ah, guest, make yourself comfortable, check my chests first for any loot, maybe leave, comeback five days later when you're ready (Kind of making fun of general player behavior here when they enter the new location)", he sees you and he straight away has something to say to you, and expects to hear something in return.

I could go on, but the point is, the Honest Heart story here is not the problem, objectivly, only your subjective perception of it creates the problems for yourself (That if speaking specifically of the parts you mentioned. Honest Heart Story itself has a few legit objective problems, such as shortness, or this same letter that this mod adds, is a genuingly benefitting addition atmosphere-wise, I'm surprised authors themselves didn't think of it).

Perfect. Great mod by the way. Just played through the evacuate side of things and your letter really added a nice touch making the locker feel like more than just a random quest reward.

@faeriexdecay: I think I used "man" as in "human", without trying to specify gender (co-writer).
