I was thinking, maybe you could add a version where you keep the pre war books and just convert them into an "aid" item later at a workbench.

Great mod! Though I wish you didn't have to eat the books after you finished reading them...

Any chance you could make a "optional file" that gives 25xp instead.

Another useless item has been use now, Thanks.
I use this mod (10xp per book) with Slower Xp - x3 that make more work to do to lv up my char.
Oh, you got my endorse, nice work

EDIT: changed it, since than the looting-crashing problem is gone too kudos to you^^

@chrisinnyshotgun: well, it kinda conflicts with that... but i just read you can use scorched, burned and destroyed books for that

I don't think it should because the script is just removing the book from your inventory. You just won't have them available to turn in.

Just out of curiosity, will this have any effect on using the book chute in old world blues?

You can avoid the message by putting another 1 after the number replaced.
    player.removeItem prewarbook 1 1
    player.additem prewarbookbook 1 1

The second one in each line is a Boolean flag that tells the function to not display a message when the function runs.
