Interesting.... can you pick the books up and carry them with you, accessing them from your inventory (or the cell, once dropped)? Would there be a way to substitute these readable books for the generic "pre-war books" we find? It'd be awesome to get on Project Gutenberg and grab a few 1,000 character exerts from some of the memorable scenes in classic works from the public domain and add them to the FO world. I always carry at least one "Pre-War Book" around on my character that I have to pretend is something else. I'd be great if it actually was readable passages from Shakespeare, Dostoyevsky, Chaucer... etc.
Oh! By the Waters of Babylon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/By_the_Waters_of_Babylon) would be perfect for Fallout, since it's about a post-apocalypse tribal exploring the crumbling ruins of New York.
I actually had an idea like that, for a mod that replaces the generic pre-war books with specific ones, when TTW 3.0 comes out, i'll get to work on it.
Wow, I just stumbled upon this while searching for better-looking book textures and this is just the right thing for a personal mod I'm working on. I'll try this out ASAP.
Thanks and good luck with it. I know a lot of people wish there were more readable books in Fallout like there were in TES, I guess perhaps everything got digitized but the Vault-Tec digital library maybe got nuked in the great war ">

Well.....I'll be back in an hour.
Thanks for this!
EDIT: Very cool mod. Heartily endorsed. =)
