I just did a redux of this mod's interiors and exteriors, making it far more immersive and foreboding. I did my best not to overwrite anything with placed objects. Lighting and weather is also revamped. I'm going to upload this overhaul tomorrow, titled DogCityDenver-Redux. @rjhelms84 if you still check this forum ever, I hope you check out the patch.

This mod deserves some serious love and attention. I hope to rekindle this baby back to deadly life

      FYI!!!!

You'll need to download and install this mod first!

You will also need xEdit to do the LOD!

welp looking at your comment, looks like there ain't going to be dog city denver remastered huh, i kinda already see that comin, I've seen many other mod authors saying they would make a certain mod but the mod never came to fruition, not blaming you or any mod authors really, modding is a challenging work, hell even i have a problem of how to use geck, that ancient relic is just something else

You can assume many things, but what reality is is a whole different thing :)

Well, my overhaul is very real, and so is yours. Just so happens that TWO remasters of this mod get released on Nexus today. Coincidence like a mthrfkr. And that, my friend, is the reality. Just so weird that you posted the same day as I did LOL

Im tired of empty complaints and assumptions. No body offered to help with this, no body contacted me in any way. You want something, yet not willing to invest in it in any way.

Then of course is the "well Il go make my own thing with beers and booz" what ever. I released what ive done so far, will update it when I have time, you are free to do what ever. Even if it has 50000 more, I will be more than happy to bring the attention to rjhelms8's work.

That wasnt nice. I respect your work, and I'll check it out. I might be inspired by your work. Whatever, right? I gave zero complaints, zero assumptions, but you assumed I did, which is weird. Weirder than us posting our remasters on the same day, somehow. Guess I offended you in some way. Forget I offered, dude. You and I will not be working together then I guess. Peace out.

Other than some lore issues, oddly named Ex-Legionnaires and equally weirder equipment choices, this was a fun mod, the dog bite script seems to be broken as it activates regardless of whether the dog actually hits you or not. Given as you were last online in 2020, I doubt there's a chance you would read this, but as I've done some script cleanup and some minor rewriting for personal preferences, is there a chance I could re-upload a modified version of this, all credits would go to you and whoever you worked on this with.

Let me know if you get the go ahead dude, I was going to clean this up myself for personal use, But assuming you have already done so I would be interested in trying it out! Did you tweak any of the lore issues & equipment stuff? or just the scripts?

I fixed some grammatical errors, and renamed the Ex-Legionnaires to something more fitting, made Porter look like his Van Buren design document image, and changed around the races and faces of the many other NPCs, renamed the dogs, and made some of the new outfits playable as well as gave them unique sounding names, and renamed some cells to be less out of place. Might redo my work into a patch esp that adds on to Dog City Denver, all my current edits affect the esp directly.

Did you ever finish working on this? I just did a visual and object overhaul, redid entire interiors and exterior zones, all the lighting and fog. I havent messed with markers, quests, or scripting yet, Im not that savvy with GECK yet, I hope to add another exterior zone and more content. If our projects could somehow be merged w a tool that would be sweet, I didnt really touch on that stuff. I'm uploading my "patch" tomorrow, naming it DogCityDenver-Redux.

Dog City Denver was an attempt to bring some of the content from the cancelled "Van Buren" project by introducing the player to the city of Denver - swarmed with dogs toxic hellhole full of tribals, former NCR prisoners turned scavengers working the rest of their time in the city and trapped Legion slavers. An interesting idea with a lot of potential and a lot of things to work with since the leak of design documents.

So how did Dog City Denver do?

A little disclaimer before I begin. I know the mod was released back in 2011 but I played it in 2022nd and I'm writing this overview for people who are trying to decide if they want to give it a shot or not now.

The story begins with the Courier getting a job offer and instructions to travel to one of the abandoned houses in Freeside. Once there, the protagonist gets gassed just to wake up behind bars with a man telling them to kill Porter. Who the hell is Porter, why Rogers wants him dead so much and why were we knocked out - we will never know. Then we are loaded into the rocket and sent to Denver without much choice or questions asked.

And that's where we arrive in Denver. Surrounded by irradiated sand storms, ruined big city. Our leg is broken. Our armor is gone (it's actually not) and we have nothing but a jumpsuit on us. At the very least, we got the case with our weapons. In my case, it was nothing but a rusty brush gun. Looking back in panic and anxiety, we make our way deeper into the city.

The same depressing in a good way landscape of urban post-apocalypses, skyscrapers watching your every move with empty eyesockets of shattered windows. But what is it? You see a human! And he doesn't fire at you too. You make your way there, talk to him, he tells you to talk with Uncle Jim. You do just that, answer some questions and just like that the guy orders his son to butcher you. First impression? It's not going to be a cakewalk. Sprinting past the goon with a riot shotgun, you climb into the hospital window just to see a body on the bed and an old man beside it.

"Death comes to all of us. Eventually."

With rare healing supplies, you get back on your feet and get outside. You gain high ground and snipe the goon before he can even notice you. Uncle Jim complains about you killing his only son and asks you to leave him be. Now that's up to you.

This section although lacking is amazing but after that everything the mod has to offer comes crashing down. Boring characters so different from what was described in design documents, a lot of things looking out of place (Legion soldiers wearing recon armor, pre-war police ghouls with energoshields and gauss rifles, the guards of the salvager camp wearing power armor, et cetera). You can see some names from design docs, but the only thing this mod shares with the spirit of what was planned is the atmosphere, because everything else is just horrible.

Bugged dogs giving you the virus even if they don't bite you, awful characters who look like they've been copied from each other (all of them are exclusively white males with more or less the same face), nonsensual and boring plot, Denver itself is surprisingly small and dry on content.

But if gameplay and story are THAT bad, is there anything good? Yes. Yes, there is.

Level design and atmosphere. Denver looks awesome and I wish we would get to explore more of it. It has this special "the fall of civilization" vibe to it. The dogs only add to the atmosphere. I honestly fell in love with how the city felt in this mod and I admire the work done.

But is it worth to play Dog City Denver in 2022nd?

No. I wouldn't say so. You can have a bit of fun, sure, but it ends way too soon. The atmosphere and level design are really cool but even they can't save a bad story, boring characters and awful gameplay. Which is sad because there was a lot of potential.

Fortunately the author learned from their mistakes and Beyond Boulder Dome fixed many of Dog City Denver issues at least to some regard (characters and plot improved significantly). Go check it out if you haven't.

I would give Dog City Denver a 5/10 (because of the atmosphere and the vibe) if I was rating mods. Hopefully a full remaster promised by @PaladinHoss will take more from Van Buren and less from this attempt. :P

    Tips:

    - You can disable captain ghoul's personal shield by using console behind him, luring him outside of the room and then sprinting back in might help.
    - If you die way too much, you have dog's virus that's not even displayed in effects tab but it reduces your END by like 9.

Short, not the best, but still a worthy addition that a mod maker made.

I wouldn't of personally downloaded had I known how small of a scope it was.

Also, if "forces" you to go to Denver when your approached in the mojave so you have to finish it.

Enemies are a couple humans and Vicious dogs. That's the variety.

after trying this mod i sadly have come to the same conclusion that most people seam to have come to that being that this mod isnt very good, story is weak, quests are tedious and basic, voice acting is average and the city feels empty. if you have mod followers such as "Niner" then his perk means the dogs arent hostile so there isnt any threat and its basically a dead money clone without anything memorable. if you liked dead money but didnt like having a bomb collar forcing you to stay and just want "plot conveniance" keeping you stuck in the mod then this is for you personally i dont find tedious fetch quests into empty rooms enjoyable and the mod has too many bugs for it to be worth the slog so sadly this is a mod to AVOID! weak attempt, poor story, way to many bugs; a very sorry for its self 3 out of 10
