I always thought it was weird that Veronica had a 10mm pistol. Unfortunately Veronica is completely useless in my game. For whatever reason, she refuse to fight anyone. When a fight starts she just runs away, flees, and does the panic animation, making her completely useless and I have no idea why she's doing it because no other companion in my game has the issue. Even if I tell her to use a gun she'll just run away.
The reason why that happens is because when she first pulls out the recharger pistol its not charged yet so she basically has no ammo... then she switches to melee her powerfist which mess up her AI.
I have notice this happen quite a bit... which is super annoying. The only work around for this if you have the companion wheel or you can talk to her and tell her to switch to melee then switch to range again to make sure she has her pistol equipped so that its already recharged when combat happens.
Loaded this last and Veronica didn't update her weapon. Checked in the GECK and the gun wasn't in her inventory lol but its in the weapon list, so I added it to her inventory and changed zone in game and hey presto she uses it!
I like the idea of Veronica using a ranged weapon she's actually good with - mostly because I find her melee AI rather buggy; she always stays near me or hides without attacking, even when set to "aggressive" - but for some reason I seem completely unable to make this mod work. When I load the game with Veronica in the party, she always has her 10mm Pistol equipped, and her new Recharger Pistol is nowhere to be seen.
When I use the command "resetinventory" on her, however, the game freezes and I either have to shut down the game itself, or in extreme cases restart the computer.
I tried using FNVedit to look for conflicts with other mods, but as far as I can tell (I have little to no experience using FNVedit) there aren't any; even where I thought there might be (namely weapon-changing mods such as "Classic Fallout Weapons" or the "Weapon Modification Expanded". Likewise I experimented somewhat with the load order, but this didn't do anything, either.
Unless there is a conflict between this mod and either Companion Dress-up or Unlimited Companions, or I overlooked anything else, I'm somewhat at my wits' end...
this will eliminate VeronicaRechargerPistol.esp from my bashed patch and make it the last mod in my load order every time I run BOSS. I had been playing all along with this mod as part of Bashed Patch, 0.esp and EDIDNVVeronicaWeapons referenced.
@GalenZ: I thought I'd accounted for that, but looking over my code I can see how that would get messed up in the case of a merged patch. I have a solution though. I'll also put a notice on the mod description page.
EDIT: Nevermind. That would actually require some NVSE stuff to do, which I'd like to avoid for so simple a mod. I'll just post a notice.
A note about that infinite loop thing - do NOT let a Bashed or Merged patch put Veronica's 10mm pistol back on her weapons list!I just spent an hour tracking down an extremely repeatable game freeze, and it was *solely* due to Bash putting the 10mm pistol back on her list.
Now that I look at previous comments, I can see why it hung, and I'm glad that it's not just something I have to regard as 'yet another inexplicable FNV crash'.I think that the main page for this mod should note that when merging this mod with BASH, you NEED to set the 'Deflst' flag on it, lest your game hang inexplicably.Or maybe alter the script again to avoid the problem, perhaps?
@ViralDust: Thank you for that, it let me track down the issue. Turns out during one of the recent patches Bethesda added a periodic check to ensure that Companions always have their weapons when appropriate. The problem was that it uses a specific list to check that, and this mod hadn't added Veronica's new Recharger Pistol to that list. This resulted in the Bethesda script constantly checking Veronica's inventory for her 10mm Pistol, not finding it, and giving her another copy of the 10mm Pistol instead. The 10mm Pistol contains a script which gives Veronica the new Recharger Pistol, then removes itself... at which point the other script triggers. Cue infinite loop.
The new update (v0.3) contains a fix for this. Veronica will no longer be given more than one Recharger Pistol.
