About this mod

In 2057, members of the Las Vegas Memorial Society got together with the Ultra-Luxe casino & Chryslus Motors to create a time capsule which would stay buried under the casino lawn for 100 years.

Unfortunately for the organizers, the world ended 80 years too early for the treasures to be recovered.

Time Capsule Mod - by BlahBlahEtc
---------------------------------------------------

This is a simple little unmarked quest mod which was inspired by real life events. I have tried to remain lore-friendly as far as possible.

----------------

[Update History]

UPDATE 1.7: Fixes issue with capsule plaque message showing up at Mojave Outpost statues and with hidden quest perk displaying in the levelling up menu. Also added version compatible with NVR (New Vegas Restoration) mod.

UPDATE 1.6: Adds additional quest lines. Signed Photograph can now be given to a certain character, and the two unique drinks can be shown to some of the booze sellers in the Strip and in Freeside - only one vendor will be interested however. 2 new recipes and 2 new perks will be unlocked after completing these objectives successfully.

UPDATE 1.5: Small update which added stuff to capsule tunnel.

UPDATE 1.4: Replaces old normal map for the car to a new one by Mr. Dave which makes the specular map work better. I have included the old normal map in a seperate folder in this archive for people to use if they have performance issues with the higher resolution one - the texture in question is DataTexturesdamtccar_n.dds. Added light switch/deactivated radio in the capsule cell for better atmosphere.

UPDATE 1.3: Follow uninstall instructions below for old versions of the main file, then install new version. Fixes a few minor bugs, adds a few cosmetic changes, removes reliance on Dead Money DLC (cheers Obsidian/Beth), and adds Mr. Dave's incredible hot rod to the capsule.

[The Mod]

In 2057, members of the Las Vegas Memorial Society got together with the Ultra-Luxe casino, Chryslus Motors, and many other companies to create a time capsule which would stay buried under the Ultra-Luxe casino lawn for 100 years. When it was to be opened in 2157, the Las Vegas citizens of the future could marvel at the beauty of a brand-new Chryslus Custom hot rod as well as other mementos of Las Vegas' past such as a television set, a radio, sporting equipment, vintage clothing, and photographs of what the city used to look like.

Unfortunately for the organisers, the world ended 80 years too early for the treasures to be recovered. It's the Courier's job to firstly find the access tunnel to the vault, then to follow the clues in order to get inside. After that, it's up to the Courier to make the most of what they find inside the capsule. New perks and recipes will be awarded if they make the right choices.

There are many pre-war treasures to be found inside the capsule, including a unique holotape, unique magazines & consumables, extremely rare & unique decorative items for your home, a unique weapon and plenty of other stuff too - not to mention a priceless, one-off hot rod!

[GETTING STARTED]

To help you on your way, I've added this section to give players a briefing on what they should do (I think it's necessary as a lot of people are finding the mod difficult to follow as it's unmarked)

OBJECTIVE 1: Find & read the plaque on the Ultra-Luxe lawn.

OBJECTIVE 2: Find the entrance to the time capsule vault. Hint: it's near to where the plaque is.

OBJECTIVE 3: Search the vault entrance for clues as to where the key and its owner went before the War.

OBJECTIVE 4: Follow the linked clues to various locations around the Strip.

OBJECTIVE 5: Once you've got hold of the key, gain access to the vault and loot it thoroughly!

OBJECTIVE 6: Make the best use of the unique alcoholic beverages you find by talking to various NPCs in the Strip and in Freeside - only one will be interested in buying them.

OBJECTIVE 7: There will be one item in the vault which will have a very obvious destination in Freeside, if you've spent any time there doing quests. Take it there for a big reward.

[Install/Uninstall]

Easy, if you've installed any Fallout mod before. Unzip to your Bethesda SoftworksFallout New VegasData folder and click 'yes' to overwrite. Use NVMM or 'Data Files' tab in the FNV launcher to activate the .esp.

Uninstall is simply a matter of deleting the DataTimeCapsule.esp file and the following folders:
DataMeshesTIMECAPSULE
DataMeshesdam
DataTexturesTIMECAPSULE
DataTexturesdam
DataSoundvoiceTimeCapsule.esp

[Credits]

Mr. Dave for both his help and his beautiful hot rod vehicle which really makes the mod. Check out his other
great modding resources HERE.

Misctag, devinpatterson, Servalion and everyone else for giving such great help and feedback for this modding amateur.

Obsidian/Bethesda for this great series of games (but a slight chastisement for trying to push your DLCs so hard at the expense of modders :P).

[Issues/Conflicts]

UPDATE: I've made an NVR (New Vegas Restoration) compatible version of the mod.

May conflict with other mods which significantly alter the Strip, the casino floor of the Lucky 38, or the interior of Vault 21. The following mods are known to cause crashes when used with the time capsule mod:

The Strip Open
New Vegas Strip Overhaul

Disable these mods while you are playing this one.

[Inspiration]

In 1957 in Tulsa, a brand-new Plymouth Belvedere was buried in a concrete vault in the centre of town together with other household items common at the time (a crate of Schlitz beer, photos, etc). It was intended to stay under the courthouse lawn for 50 years, and be recovered in 2007. A competition was held in 1957 which involved participants guessing what Tulsa's population would be in 2007; the guesses were then placed in a secure capsule inside the car. In 2007 the 'precious antique' would be lifted out of its tomb and awarded to the person who got closest with their guess (or their closest living heirs if they had died since).

Unfortunately, despite the best (if somewhat primitive) efforts of the organisers, the car was discovered to be a rusting brown hulk when it was raised from the ground. The conclusion seems to have been that road building in the area had cracked the concrete of the vault, allowing water in to ruin the car. It's currently being restored however and it appears that the gold & white paint still survives underneath the rust, and the chrome is still okay although the car will require a donor frame - pictures of the ongoing restoration HERE.
