UPDATE: Added a compatibility patch for the Dead Money DLC
--------------
Prior to Patch 1.2 it was possible to find five Food Sanitizers in the basement of the REPCONN Test Site. These Food Sanitizers were confusing in that, unlike the Fallout 3 version, they didn't actually DO anything (except for two items).

A rather insightful person (I assume he's a dude, but you can never tell) named Morbide came out with a mod called ''Lightweight Food Sanitizer'', which re-implemented the Food Sanitizer's effects, as well as lightening the item so as to be more reasonable, given its size. This was THE mod to get for this issue, until the release of Patch 1.2. Now restoring the item takes a bit more work. And so now I'm putting forth my effort. Details as follows:

EFFECTS:

The Food Sanitizer once again provides a 20% boost in health restoration on all food items. Because food heals over time, this is mostly done by altering the DURATION of food effects, rather than the MAGNITUDE, e.g. Junk Food will heal 1(6s) instead of 1(5s). Some items will have their magnitude altered instead; in general I went with whatever method would bring the result closest to a 20% increase, without going under. Let me re-emphasize that by saying that 20% is the MINIMUM health restoration increase the Food Sanitizer will cause... with one exception.

The exception is for food items which temporarily reduce your Strength, Endurance, Agility, etc., things like Barrel Cactus Fruit and (in Hardcore) Dog Meat. For those items the Food Sanitizer removes that penalty, but does NOT provide any added health restoration.

Oh yes, for the purposes of this mod, "food items" mean any consumable item which provides health, other than stimpaks, healing powder, and bitter drinks. Items like whiskey, etc. are not affected by the Food Sanitizer at all.

LOCATION:

As of this release the Food Sanitizer can only be obtained from Horowitz, the leader of the survivors of Vault 34. Horowitz is only encountered if you opt to reroute reactor control during the Hard Luck Blues quest. Horowitz will appear in the Aerotech Office Park, Suite 300, approximately 3 days after you complete the quest. If you ask him for a "Vault trinket" as a reward for saving him, he will give you the Food Sanitizer.

I am open to further suggestions as to where to place other Food Sanitizers.

VERSIONS:

Currently there are two versions: a standard version, and the ''Lightweight'' version. The ''Lightweight'' version is, like the name would indicate, a version of the mod which lowers the weight of the Food Sanitizer to 0.5, in addition to everything else the mod does.

OTHER NOTES:

Because this quest relies on interactions with Horowitz, I suggest you download a bugfix mod I created to address issues with his dialogue. This mod is included in the Community Bugfix Compilation. The bugfix by itself can be found here: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36952

MAKE SURE THIS MOD LOADS -AFTER- THE HOROWITZ FIX/BUGFIX COMPILATION

TL;DR:

- Food Sanitizer is given to you by Horowitz if you rescue the survivors of Vault 34. (It's the "Vault trinket")

- Removes any penalties to Strength, Endurance, etc. caused by food.

- Provides an extra 20% (at least) health restoration for food items not affected by the above.

- Works if you have multiple Food Sanitizers in inventory; no extra effects though.

- Optional ''Lightweight'' (0.5 weight) version available.
