Galen's Inventory Manager
-------------------------
Current version: 1.01 BETA Released 12-10-10 by GalenZ

UPDATE: v1.01 fixes stupid error by removing Mercenary Pack.esm as (uneccessary) master. Can now be used by people without Mercenary pack.

Description
-----------
This plugin provides a convenient way to store objects by type in any container (including companions), while keeping essentials like money, lockpicks, equipped weapons and armor, and ammo for your equipped weapon in your inventory.

Installation
------------
This mod requires NVSE, which you can get at http://nvse.silverlock.org/

To install, extract the contents of the zipfile (GalensInventoryManager.esp and this readme) into your data folder, just as you would install any other mod.Your data folder is likely to have a path something like C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\Data.

I highly recommend that you use a mod manager such as FOMM (http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36901) to manage your mods, if you aren't already doing so.Using either your mod manager or the FNV startup menu, enable GalensInventoryManager.esp. It's position in the mod load order is completely irrelevant; put it wherever you like. Then start your game.

The first time you start your game after installing this mod, within a few seconds after startup you should see a messages in the upper left corner stating 'Galen's Inventory Manager has been installed.'. If you now bring up your inventory and look under 'Armor', you should see an object named '[Galen's Inventory Manager]' near the bottom of the list. If you do, the mod has been successfully installed.

Uninstallation
--------------
To uninstall, either disable GalensInventoryManager.esp using your mod manager, or simply remove it from your data folder.

Usage
-----
Once installed, and you start up a new session, an item named "[Galen's Inventory Manager]" will be added to your inventory under 'Armor'. Ignore it; in the current release it doesn't do anything except indicate that it's installed. So long as you have it in your inventory, the manager should work; if you remove it from your inventory, it won't.

So long as you have the Manager in your inventory, you can activate it by putting the cursor over a container (or companion) that you could activate, and hitting the 'P' key. This will bring up a menu asking what you want to do with that container.

In this release (1.0 beta), the options are:

Do Nothing - like it says. Acts the same as if you hit 'escape'.
Store Weapons - will store all non-equipped weapons in the container.
Store Armor - will store all non-equipped armor in the container.
Store Ammo - will store ammo for non-equipped weapons in the container.
Store Chems and Aids - will store chems, doctor bags, stealthboys,
magazines, and weapon repair kits in the container.
Store Food and Ingredients - will store any ingestible that is not
a chem or aid, including raw meat and other ingredients.
Store Useful Miscellany - will store useful and/or valuable
miscellaneous items in the container, including crafting
items, hides, and cigarettes. It will NOT store money or
lockpicks.
Store Junk - will store miscellaneous clutter items that have
no real use or value, such as cans, plates, empty bottles, etc.
Store Everything - will store everything except equipped weapons and
armor, ammo for your equipped weapon, money, and lockpicks.
[More Options] - currently leads to an empty second menu.

After choosing an option, the menu will come back up so you can store something else, too.

When you're done, select the Do Nothing/Exit Menu option.

Bugs and other Issues
---------------------
This a new toy, and it's in Beta, so I'm sure there will be a few bugs. If you find any, please let me know.

If you are carrying multiple instances of an equipped weapon or armor, then none of the non-equipped instances of the equipped item will be stored.I'm looking into how to get around this problem.

Even though they can be used to build a few items at a workbench, I have classified tin cans, detergent, and empty soda bottles as junk.

The [Galen's Inventory Manager] object in your inventory doesn't actually do anything if equipped right now, but will be used to set configuration options in future releases.

Compatibility with Other Mods
-----------------------------
Given that this mod does not use or override resources from anything except the base FalloutNV, it should be totally compatible with all other mods. However, if any other mod tries to use the 'P' key for some reason, there will obviously be a conflict.

Future Improvements
-------------------
I made this mod primarily for my own use, and will be expanding it to make my own life in the Wasteland a bit easier.Specifically, I plan to add other menus that will allow you to do things like:

oGet a basic consumables kit from a container, e.g. 5 or so water,
5 or so food, 2 of each chem/mag/aid, and a bunch of stimpacks and
sarsparilla.
oStore weapons and armors by type, e.g. unarmed/melee/guns/energy/
explosives, and clothing/light/med/heavy armor.
oAllow you to define one or more personal 'kits' of items, such that
you will be able to automatically get items needed to fill out the kit
in your inventory.
oAutomatically equip armor and weapons from a kit, all at once.
oUnequip all equipped weapons and armor at once.
oAllow you to customize your own 'junk' and 'chems' lists.
oAllow you to change the key binding.

If you have any other ideas for what else you'd like to see in this mod, please let me know.

Other Recommended Mods
----------------------
I hugely recommend installing and learning how to use
WryeFlash NVhttp://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35003
and
FNVEdithttp://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34703

in order to get your mods to play together well.

For inventory management, WryeFlash has several nice features. When creating a BashedPatch, there is an option that will automatically cause your inventory to be sorted (and optionally prefixed) by item type, which I have found hugely useful when managing inventory. You can also use WryeFlash to extract item names out of whatever inventory sorter mod you like, and apply them *AFTER* all your other mods, without having to worry about who's overriding whom.

Customization and Usage in other Mods
-------------------------------------
I hereby put this mod freely in the public domain, though of course I would appreciate getting at least a little credit by anyone who uses all or part of in in other mods. Modders creating large 'overhaul' packages should feel free to incorporate it into their own mods if they like; however, as I will be enhancing it as time goes on, I suggest that you talk to me first.

If you open it up, you'll see that it's pretty simple, just a startup initialization quest and then a GameMode script that runs every frame to look for the keypress. The scripts are well commented, and can serve as raw material for anyone looking to play with inventories. There are several FormLists that list all known chems, magazines, and junk items, which might prove useful in other mods, and which you can override to customize the exact set of objects that this mod regards as junk/chems/etc.

Thanks and Credits

This mod was inspired by and uses concepts from:

Automatic Inventory by gundamb2
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37592

and

Store Items by Type NVSEby gsmanners
http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38438

both of which I totally reverse-engineered in order to understand how they worked, and thus create this one.I wish to hugely thank the creators of those mods for making them so useful, inspiring, and educational, all at the same time.

Note that you can have GalensModManager installed at the same time as both of those, as all three use totally different interfaces.

Version History
---------------
1.01 - 12/10/10 - Removed Mercenary Pack.esm as master, so it can be used by people who don't have the mercenary pack.

Best wishes on using GalensInventoryManager. If you like it, please endorse it, so other people will hear about it too!
