Would a doctor in a filthy, no-horse town be able to reconstruct a person’s head in a matter of days? Sure, but not without cutting a few corners. Beauty represents the more realistic ‘outcome’ of the surgery.
Doc Mitchell had to do a lot of improvisation in putting her back together. Bones replaced with metal, torn flesh replaced with whatever was handy. It made her incredibly tough, but took a toll on her looks. This fact, combined with the fact that she was quite experienced before receiving her injury means she has a multitude of starting perks. She is now a loner who distrusts people, more at home with the wild life of the wastelands. She is very self-sufficient, and learns very fast.
