This is a spreadsheet designed to help with character planning. I've only incorporated skills and S.P.E.C.I.A.L., no perks at this point, and I don't think there will be. (I'm new at Excel, and what fiddling I did with trying to employ traits and perks did not go well.)

Feel free to leave a message to let me know about any improvements or whatever, and I'll see what I can do.

INSTRUCTIONS:

0. Download either the .xlsx (Office 2007+) version or .xls (pre-2007 Office) version, depending on what you've got. The .xlsx opens just fine on Open Office.

1. Open with some spreadsheet program (Excel, Calc, etc). It works ok with Google Docs, but it loses some sexiness.

2. Adjust your starting S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Add any (or all) S.P.E.C.I.A.L. implants you intend to get. Implants are checked against your Endurance, but it won't break anything if you take more than is acceptable. Intense Trainings can be added in the first column.

3. Tag 3 skills.

4. Set the priority for the skills. These have a few options, though not too many; basically:
a. Max it out
b. Max it out when wearing all available skill-boosting gear
c. Max it out with gear and a skill magazine
d. Max it out with gear + skill magazine with Comprehension

There's one other option, in Repair: "I only care about making weapon repair kits!" which assumes a goal of 50 Repair, with max Repair gear (+5) but no skill magazines (so, 45 repair skill). Also note that there's no +Explosives gear, so that's not an option in that one.

5. Select whether you intend to take Comprehension or Educated or both.

*If you take Educated, make sure you also indicate at what level you intend to take it (in the drop-down next to the "yes/no" for Educated); if you leave it at 4, but take it at a level higher than that, it will tell you you have more skill points available than you do. Also, with Educated, the "skill points per level" will reflect the points you will receive *after* taking Educated, so for your early levels, remember you'll be getting fewer than that; however, as I just explained, the "total skill points by level 30" *will* accurately reflect the lower amount for the early levels.*

6. Futz around with the scrap paper, using up however many points you have left.

From what I can tell from double-checking in-game, this spreadsheet works, though I don't deny the possibility that I'm a complete idiot and I've done something terribly wrong. If that's the case, let me know, or make a better one yourself!

I don't intend this to be the be all and end all of FONV spreadsheets, I only intend to have made a quick and easy one that will hopefully suffice until some pro makes one that includes perks/traits/etc. To those pros: feel free to use what I've done here as a base, just as long as I get a little credit note at the end talking about how handsome I am. I'm happy to give out the password to un-protect the file, it's only protected so people don't accidentally mess it up. In fact, I'll just include it here; I'll probably forget it if I don't write it down somewhere. The password to unprotect the sheet is "autruiishandsome". I really am, too, so it works. That's also the password for my email, bank account, home safe, front door, and it's my address and real name too, so please don't rob me.

KNOWN ERRORS AND OMISSIONS:

Perks and traits, obviously, I've mentioned those. Any skill-boosting or SPECIAL-boosting perks/traits can be incorporated manually; nothing will break if you adjust the values a little bit. Or a lot, whatever.

Increasing Intelligence via Intense Training or an Implant will change how many skill points you have available to you, and I haven't yet come up with an easy way to implement that change, so just keep it in mind. This *will* result in the "total skill points by level 30" calculation to be off; however, in order to make this a pleasant surprise rather than a detrimental miscalculation, the "total skill points" field calculates using your *base* (initial, pre-implant or perk) intelligence, so the error will be in your favor, not agaist you. Short version: If you buff Int, you will have more skill points than the sheet says. Don't spend them all in one place! Unless that place is Guns, in which case, i l u.

Finally, I'm not sure about the rounding, so if you know things about things, take a look G2:G14; it seems to be how it works in-game, but I haven't come across any confirmation anywhere.

VERSION HISTORY:
0.42- This was a fun one. It had color and math. I'm sorry you guys missed it.
1.0 - Here it is! After 13 months of working on it, I'm finally ready to release it. Just kidding. I whipped it out in about 5 minutes. Hm. There's a dirty joke in there somewhere, but I really just don't feel like making it.

THANKS: To the squirrel that followed me all the way to Grant Park the other day. I'm pretty sure it was the same squirrel. It looked the same. Me and the squirrel are friends. Oh, and also: thanks to the internet, from whence came all of the skill formulas.
