About this mod

Introduces .410 shotshell as new type of ammo. Changes That Gun to over - under .223/5.56 - .44mag/.410...

Permissions and credits

-Alternative Version-

"SpookyJ's That Gun Plus Squared" - changes the ammo so that instead of halving the damage points there is an incrased damage threshold penalty. This is more realistic and may serve to balance the mod for those who prefer to use vanilla damage/health stats. Props to Gawl40.

.410 Shotshell

-Original Version-

"SpookyJ's That Gun Plus Plus" - Original version, though imo antiquated by newer versions. Introduces .410 with halved damage.

.410Shotshell
DAM x .50
SPRD x 2.00

Use one or the other.

Being a longtime Fallout fan I was glad to see the return of the .223 pistol to New Vegas, but after trying it out I was left unimpressed. Such a groovy gun deserved to be beefed up a bit and, being totally new to modding I figured if I was going to screw around with the GECK "That Gun" would be a good place to begin.

For starters I changed the name to "C&S 2019 Detective Special". I'm not the first to do this but I feel the nod to a SciFi classic coupled with the elemination of the potentially ermersion breaking (were it not so humorous) name "That Gun" was a good choice.

Secondly, I wanted to capitalize on the double barrel over-under feature of the gun. Maybe Obsidian thought it was enough to include the .233 and 5.56 rounds in the ammo list; however, the .223 and 5.56 rounds really are the same thing, and can be fired from the same barrel, so why the extra weight of two? Because it looks frickin' awesome, right? Right, but I figured why not expand on the gun's usefulness and make it a long-term weapon to use throughout the length of the game, all while making it a truly unique weapon?

I did this by altering the ammo list for the gun so that now it can use the 5.56 ammo variations as well as .44 magnum variations. I mean, dosn't the gun just feel like a kickass .44? But the main reason I did this was to introduce a new ammo variant, the .410 shotshell, which is interchangeable with a .44 mag in any gun with a smooth bore. This way the bottom barrel facilitates the use of the .410 and the .44 mag, albeit with slightly reduced accuracy, while the top barrel can be used for the .223 and 5.56

The .410 changes the gun's projectiles to 4 buckshot, but decreases damage points and increases spread (like it should.) It has it's own custom world model, which looks pretty decent, if not a bit on the low-res side (might add higher-res later). I've added it to loot and vendor tables, and it's craftable, with similar prerequisites to the .44 mag (except the skill requirement is 30 repair instead of 50. I used to dissassemble .410 and other shotshells when I was a kid, and I still have all my fingers, so it can't be that hard.) I liked the brass shell casings and .410 and the more popular .44 shotshells were all loaded in brass back in the day, so I kept those.

Now "That Gun" can be your go to gun; something like a pistol, rifle, and shotgun all in one. This is great for realistic weight mods in hardcore mode, or roleplaying when you want to hit The Strip in style but with plenty enough firepower, as well. Grab your trusty C&S19 and a handful of you favourite ammo, and you're all set with room to spare.

You know the drill, extract and add to Data. I needed the meshes to play on one computer but not the other, so you may or may not have to keep them. I'm not sure why this is and don't know if I'll go poking around in The GECK to find out when I could just be playing the game.

This is my first mod, so lemme know where I screwed up, or lemme know if you like it. Also, anyone can use this mod for anything, anywhere, anytime, except to upload to any paysite (who'm I kiddin'?) Just gimme some props, and don't blame me if it kills your dog or blows up your computer.
