actually i roleplay an assassin legion supporter and in my head canon my courier kills Legate Lanius after "accidentally" killing Caesar and after constantly battling up the ranks to be the leader changes the policies to allow sufficiently strong women to be warriors (basically anyone who can kill her strongest troops in the arena) and mercilessly beats anyone who disrespects her basically she proves that women aren't just baby makers did a mention she's an evil character so she has no issues with anything else the legion does
(i made this story up because of my habit of always playing female characters)
because they are taking true Roman culture to it's extreme and ignoring any level of nuance to justify their actions (like enslaving women women were not slaves in Rome (granted they were treated as second class citizens and could not vote or have any true formal political power (however in a behind the scenes and informal way they still influenced politics through their husbands)) I'd also like to point out while women did not fight in the army they DID fight in gladiatorial combat (not to the same degree as men and only as novelty acts of course this is Ancient Rome we are talking about) and the Romans DID encounter female warriors of other cultures (though in an unofficial and unsanctioned form) and there are tales of these warriors told by Roman Scholars
Makes no sense that you can work with the Legion as female but for some reason can't fight in the arena. Even less sense when you know the best fighter in the arena is a female NCR Ranger...
actually that does not contradict the policy as she is not there to earn respect she's there to die. Otho refuses to let you fight Voluntarily as that would entail allowing you to fight for the Legion's respect
yeah honestly a lot about letting the player join the legion as a female is odd it probably would've just been better to lock the player out of the legion questline as a female character or idk have a shift in attitude once the player character actually starts helping the Legion? not a lot actually changes during the quest line Caesar is still a disrespective prick none of the legions policies change by the end it's just.... odd and feels oddly incomplete and like your actions don't really have an impact on the faction just the mojave
Uh, alec6694, Obsidian isn't sexist. The Legion, however, is. They're kind of throwback jerks, in case you hadn't noticed.
You could slaughter people all the live-long day in the arena in Oblivion as a female, I kind of doubt they suddenly went "Hey! Let's keep girls from fighting in this arena in New Vegas for no reason, hyuk hyuk!"
I second that. They (Caesar's Legion) even crucify people on wooden crosses, so how could anyone expect them (again CL, not Obsidian or Bethesda) to not be sexist? Caesar himself might accept help from a woman, but at the time the female player proved herself, I guess. It still has nothing to do with the arena, or even forcing them to suddenly stop being a sexist party. They also won't stop doing things to people, just because the player disagrees with their methods.
That being out of the way, who wants to fight as a female in the arena, go for this (or any similar) mod, who doesn't, feel free to ignore it.
if you want to justify it by gameplay alone the arena gives legion reputation and is one of the few repeatable ways to grind up reputation with the legion (the other being slaughtering the NCR but that gains Infamy so if you want to sort of play the field for a bit (or have a chance to be accepted to free silus) the arena is really your only option other than doing quests and hoping they don't give you NCR infamy)
For anyone having trouble getting the mod to work, make sure it enabled in the plugins tab. Mine didn't auto enable after installing it for some reason and I finally figured out that was what was causing it to not work in my game.
was interested in something like this. was never able to try out these fights due to my habits when creating characters, so this was right up my alley.
Hope someone comes along and makes something that requires a few skill checks (Strength/melee/endurance most likely, and a reputation flag on top of it. Legion shouldn't let some girl they have no respect for practice their bloodsport.)
I'd like to remind people that the legion isn't the roman empire, they're roman larpers seperated from the actual history by eighteen-hundred years and the apocalypse. they're probably pulling from elsewhere or a misleading book to justify the misoginy. Sallow might be educated, but he still has 4 int and a brain tumor.
Caesar is written to be an intelligent character albeit deeply flawed in his ideology, in geck special stats are not really part of the writing process, IIRC Caesar has the same basic legion class as every other legionary, it's not really part of the game's canon.

Nah, just kidding. I don't understand why any female pc would side with legion though.

Otho is a strange guy

Caesar doesn't let women serve because he wants to maximize population growth, simple.
