Unfortunately Steam forces the game to run using the Lanucher. The Lanucher is annoying, slows you down, and has a bug in it that overwrites Fallout.ini with Fallout_default.ini everytime it runs.
Thankfully there is a way to work around that by directly starting the game itself. Too bad steam won't normally let you do that. But, I found a way!
Create a .bat file in your Fallout New Vegas directory called something like RunNewVegas.bat. Put the following lines in it:
set SteamAppID=22380 FalloutNV.exe
Or just download and use the one I already made. Run RunNewVegas.bat to play the game!
If you aren't using the 'normal' version of New Vegas with SteamAppID of 22380 you'll need to change the 22380 in the bat file to whatever AppId you need.
