So, uh, I did a little bit of oopsie and completely make the binoculars unusable. I was curious and decided to try the B42 Optics options and thought maybe I could make the binoculars act like a normal scope. I was wrong. And now I don't know how to reverse the binoculars settings. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Installation gets weird using MO2. The zoom is functional but there's a large exclamation point in there, too.

    Greetings new people!
lStewieAl's Tweaks has a setting and more that does the same and you can use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out.

Doesn't replace the poop default overlay texture though, does it?

Thank you for this! Still works like a charm, in 2021!

Could you add an option to use a less zoomed in scope? Something like this

If you have the side bars add fScopeScissorAmount = 0 to display in all ini files in "my docs\ games\falloutnv" 'Appdata\local\falloutnv" and it doesnt hurt to add it to the ini files in your game folder. Also this mod conflicts with the FOV-Slider mod, here's a way to fix since that mod overwrites that ini setting as well. First set fScopeScissorAmount to .05 in the MCM menu, If you still have the bars after that, then open your FOVSlider.ini in " Fallout New Vegas \ data \ config " folder and change fScopeScissorAmount to 0 there. =P

FYI I did discover a conflicting mod that will negate your changes to the ini files- FOV Slider changes the fScopeScissorAmount value by default. Luckily you can adjust it down to .050 via the MCM and those opaque bars will finally go away.

Why did it take me 5 years to find this mod?

I have the "Steam version" of FONV with the NVSE & modded with Nexus Mod Managaer on a Win7/10-64b machine.
I could NOT find the "FalloutPrefs.ini" file in "C / Program File (x86) / Steam / SteamApps / common / Fallout New Vegas" , so I edited the "Fallout_default.ini" file in the previously mentioned location.
... and grey side bars remained...
Apparently, W10 has two different folders called "MyGames", and I FINALLY found the correct ini file in "C / Users / Owner / Documents / MyGames / FalloutNV" . I also had to change the default setting of read only by unchecking the box in order to save the change I'd made.
... and the grey side bars disappeared!

You should REALLY consider moving your Steam install out of the program files to avoid UAC issues. There are instructions for moving an active Steam install here.

I added fScopeScissorAmount=0 to the INI files and the bars went away!

But then I equipped my Cowboy Repeater, and the iron sights were invisible. Has anyone else seen this happen?
