Carter tends to be my alter-ego in these stories. So, some of what he's feeling is what I'm feeling. At the moment, I don't feel like continuing the story of Gregor, the puppet master. A wealthy and powerful man who is fomenting a Marxist revolution From Within the NCR.

Micky and Tasha, like GP and Carter, are mainstay characters for me so they will probably be back at some point.

I used ENB of the Apocalypse here. It's a big change for me, but once I got into it, I really liked it.

    Cheers.

Oh so cool to see Carter & GP again!(: I surely remember them in nice ways.
I much like the images and way you write and think.
Guess most of us are a bit tired of keeping up with history repeating itself..
Also the look of the Enb goes very well with the mood of the story. Love this contrast!
Though I enjoyed the puppetmaster story I'm looking forward to whatever you'll be up to next(:

Thanks. I'm glad you remembered my old characters. It's been awhile, but it was good to bring them back. My FNV game has died really dead.  It's a shame too, I was just learning how to use the Apocalypse enb. But I will have to rebuild the game so I can try out your reshade.

Oh how that happened? Sorry to hear it's lost :(
Now I'm very curious how my reshade looks with the Ap. Enb

gotta say ditto to what Cat said on the screenshots.  lately i have had to pontificate myself out of a creeping up depression.

Hurricanes, Wuhan virus, lockdowns, and a terrible season for the Tigers. It's enough to drive a man to drinking.

Amen on 2A. Apparently Beto is slated to be the gun czar. During the campaign he proclaimed that he would come to your house to take your guns. I just bought a Henry repeater, lever action. It's chambered for cowboy rounds -- .45 LC. I'm old-fashioned. My wife wanted an AR-15, but there is not one to be found around here in any caliber.

Some great moody shots, I use the Apocalypse ENB for FNV as well, plus one other. I can understand Carter's mood although I admit I am the opposite. After living under what feels like an oppressive cloud the last few years for the first time in four years I feel like a ray of hope has leaked over the horizon and we might finally see the sun again. I suppose that reflects my world view as a humanitarian that feels the purpose of society is to make life better for everyone instead of empowering corporations and the wealthy that control them.

Regardless I can empathize with the desire to run away from it all. I already started working with my finances to see when I might be able to retire early and get a small cabin in northern Maine. Somewhere in the forest, well away from coastal flood lines, with a dog or two. Not sure I can swing it though. Backup plan is a small cabin my parents may leave for me if it works out. Hard to say what the next decade will bring though. Too much unrest and too many big problems creating a lot of unknowns.

A ray of hope, well that's good. Much better than those folks who screeched at the sky four years ago. As you may know, I was an assistant professor at an Ivy League school and am pretty familiar with a lot of the views of the left. I still correspond regularly with several of my old colleagues, and the exchanges do get heated at times. Unfortunately, everything is political now and completely polarized. I know that I live in a bubble, an echo chamber (most of us do, unfortunately), but I do read and listen to the other side. The Real Clear Politics site is a good source for that. They post editorials for one side's view followed by one from the other side. It's my first stop every morning.

We agree on one thing -- the big corporations do have too much power. However, I don't believe that Biden will do anything about that since his biggest donors were big corporations, in particular big tech. We'll see. I do have to congratulate him on the vote: more votes than Hillary or Barrack. And this one is truly astounding -- more black votes than Barrack Obama. Incredible.

My wife's folks had a cottage on a lake in WI. When they decided to sell, we thought about it, but decided that we liked the freedom of an RV.

As always, I appreciate your comments and thanks for viewing.

Thanks Laird and I am well read on both sides, believing you can't really understand the situation unless you look at both viewpoints, but may be a small misunderstanding so will clarify. I don't really have anything against either side and I have been in the middle (independent) most of my life. I like to think that at their core both sides want the same thing - to improve the country and the lives of its people - they just have different ideas on how to go about that. I think now both are corrupt, taken over by various special interest groups, the wealthy, and big business (and Citizens United certainly didn't help in that regard).   My comment was in regard to the narcissistic, vile, immoral, despicable, and degenerate thing that hopefully will be soon banished back to the abyss where it belongs. Let either side be in control as long as they have a good person managing things with the good of the country and its people forefront in all their decisions and thinking.

I also agree with you that banning of free speech is very bad, no argument there. The price of that freedom is that all sides, even ones you may not like, get a chance to speak up. Hate speech is a bit more gray. I know I had one of my comments on FB banned and I couldn't find anything really wrong about it although it was political. It was very annoying.

That is all I will say on the subject here as its as dangerous of a topic as religion, I only brought it up because your post did. I am happy, however, to discuss anything about the ideology of either party, as I find that interesting, privately.

Terrific screenshots, your twiddling with your ENB looks great.   I totally identify with what you are feeling and could go on for quite a while about what I'm seeing/have seen and thinking, but I won't elaborate here.  I'm not someone who allows their emotions to override their intellect nor am I easily influenced by whatever any politicians or the media say, but people need to go read (or re-read) 1984 and Brave New World, imo.

Thankee kindly. It took a little while to get used to Apocalypse, but I found that I could do a lot with it. And I did want to
try a bleak enb. The dof, however, is not so good. I also used GEForce to augment a few things like HDR.

Agree about the dangers posed by Huxley and Orwell. Freedom of speech is the one that concerns me most. It is the most basic and important of our liberties. Lately we've seen many people, even the POTUS, banned or censored on every social media and media outlet. Those actions are far worse than reporting false stories.

Carter has a certain higher awareness of the past repeating itself Those thugs of history have all been turned on not only by opposition but the very governments which came about from successful revolutions. He's smart to want to distance himself.

My lead characters tend to be pretty deep and well-versed in history. Somehow they found the right holotapes. In Carter and GP's situation, they see both sides as wrong. Maybe one more evil than the other, but not enough for them to take up arms again.

And me? I'm with Michael Palin --

I can very easily empathise with your state of mind. It's exhausting, unjust, and cruel. As power and wealth grow, empathy decreases and eventually evaporates (if any even existed to begin with). Snake Pliskin is the answer. At least that's how I feel all too often.

It's easy enough to guess where my political beliefs lie, and I won't go there -- not here. But, I agree that the day may come for the Snake Pliskin's of the world. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Every time that a single person or group gains complete control, the dissidents are silenced, and eventually eliminated or rounded up into camps. A prime example:  Posts by the president of a large country have recently been banned and removed by several powerful social media companies, and other online media outlets. Free speech is always the first thing to to be taken away.

I don't know how I ever missed Kriss' own version. Always Janis - as terrific as she sings it. Useless information. One afternoon on the road we hadn't yet found a hotel. Monterey was full booked. Then that line popped up in my head "one day near Salinas.........." And a road sign pointing to Salinas. Plenty of vacant motels. And one of the best steaks we ever had
Beautiful pics really supporting a very emotional story. And in some odd way I understand Carter and GP. Sometimes you just get a feeling of immense tiredness by the state of things. Making an escape into the wilderness seems like - heck; it IS- THE thing to do. The Big Sky (I know that's Montana)  and the fresh and crisp, clear air biting your nose. The wide open - immense- expanses of land spreading out in front of you.
    Stay safe friend

It's a great song. So much heart and feeling in it. You think it's just a sad song about a lost love with a little Woody Guthrie thrown in, and then that line hits you. I had no real appreciation for what it means -- that kind of freedom. Not at first anyway, but eventually I understood. I knew a guy like that. He had dropped out during the Viet Nam war, went under the radar. Bummed around from faire to faire with just his tent and meager belongings. Always took cash for his work and never paid taxes or voted. Was he happy? I think so. Was he a nice guy? Yes, to that also. He was always there to lend a hand when someone needed it and ran a charity for the less fortunate Rennie kids.

I appreciated your story as well. I guess a few words like that can have a large impact on many people.

The call of the wilderness. I feel that way when we camp on BLM land (Bureau of Land Management). Just wide open spaces and a blanket of stars that goes on forever -- the stairway to heaven. I dunno, it makes me feel like I'm somehow a part of that Cosmos.
