About this image
As the runaway children of extreme religious fundamentalists, Charlie McAllister and his brother Chris relied heavily on one another. They left their parents after years of abuse and sustained themselves as hunters. They barely survived at first, but over the years they refined their skills and their craft. Charlie and Chris grew to be renowned hunters in their corner of the wasteland with the reputation of securing dangerous trophies from their adventures.
During a botched attempt at poaching deathclaw eggs, Chris was gravely injured. Charlie decided the two of them should travel to the Mojave and seek the help of the New Vegas medical clinic before infection and organ failure could kill his brother. To accumulate the caps required for his brother’s surgery, Charlie went to work for the Mojave Express taking the most dangerous courier jobs available. He put most of the caps toward the stimpaks that kept Chris alive while the remainder was saved for Chris's surgery.
However, during a job that took Charlie through territory where there had been Legion sightings, Charlie was arrested and taken to Camp McCarran under suspicion of being a legion spy. Though Charlie tried desperately to convince the NCR that he was just a courier trying to save his brother’s life, his pleas fell on deaf ears while Chris died alone and in pain. During his imprisonment, Charlie sat in a cell between Silus and another courier prisoner while the strangers debated Legion philosophy at length. By the time the NCR finally freed Charlie, his head was full of Legion ideals and nightmares of his brother’s final agonizing days.
Despite his deep hatred for the NCR, Charlie’s conversion to the Legion was not complete until after the bullet entered his brain in Goodsprings. The parts of his brain that previously allowed Charlie to feel empathy and compassion were permanently injured. Moreover, as Charlie looked out into the wasteland, he did not see the presence of the God of the Bible his parents preached to him. Instead, he saw more clearly the power and the glory of the God of War. With his brother dead, his mind altered, and a disposition favorable to Legion faith, Charlie was the shell of a courier ready to embrace the darkness of war.
