I have a friend who has 3 degrees in various computer graphics design areas and he pretty much told me, unless the person who's looking at your images has a 4K (if they're 4K pics) or an 8K monitor (for 8K images), they aren't going to see any differences. He also said a few other things which lead up to, unless you're using 4K or 8K for working in advanced graphics programs, it was a waste of one's computer hard drive space (if you save them).

Your images look really good here, very nice color and sharpness, but since I have only a lowly 2K monitor, I'm mostly likely not seeing what the higher resolution is improving.

Looking at the image resized in a browser isn't going to look much better, to get the full benefit you have to make the image full size and then pan around it, it's like having a bunch of 2K images stitched together which will obviously contain more detail that a single 2K image.

Look at the third embedded image, the one of the front of the pub, the "Prospector" lettering looks fine resized in a browser, now click on the image and click again to make it go full size, the lettering now looks horrendous, we can now see it in all its "glory". The sign out front is the same, shrunk down in the browser it looks fine, make it full size and you can see the join down the middle of the posts, OK they're details we don't want to see but they're details nonetheless.

As for DSR itself this explains what it does, it's does more than shrink an large image down, it's uses grass as an example and that did look a hell of a lot better in game. The other thing that was good was the anti aliasing, the image on the left is rendered at 1440p with 8xAA, the one on of the right is 1440p downsampled from 8K, go full size and look at the phone cables, there are still jaggies on the left, while they're completely gone on the right. https://www.flickr.com/photos/jimbo_uk/48288708822/sizes/o/

Do you happen to have your own private fusion generator in your back yard to drive such pics........... !! Looking good to me. But then again - I'm only on a 21" IPS panel so.......

You can do it on any display using Nvidia's DSR and this to force higher resolutions. https://www.forum-3dcenter.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=593534

It's a shame it doesn't, it's better than having to run the game at stupid resolutions.

Could you go into more detail on how you did this? I've been fooling around trying to get it to work and the only way I can is if I set my monitor's resolution to the intended DSR size, otherwise it doesn't work.

Once I'd set a custom DSR for 7680 × 4320 with that tool I linked it became available in the game options, it should be there if it's available for the desktop. It should look like this...

Yeah, I got this far. But when I launch the game it takes up both my monitors. The only way I can get it to work is if I set my primary monitors resolution to the intended DSR resolution, which is a pain.

Are you using borderless window? I would imagine that would require the desktop being the same resolution, I switched to fullscreen just to try this.

I had unchecked it in the launcher option, but I forgot to disable OneTweak in MO2. Thanks!

1440p, DSR renders the game at higher resolutions than your monitor can support and then downsamples them to whatever your monitor is, the good thing about it is that screenshots are captured before the downsampling so you get the full rendered resolution, the bad thing is with new titles rendering at 8K is going to result in a frame rate that looks like a slideshow.

the shots look nice but I noticed the same thing in various games. You really need excellent textures at high detail to go up to that monitor resolution (well at least I do - I know opinions vary). I have tried various monitor resolutions and screen sizes for FNV, Skyrim, and FO4 and happiest with my 2560x1440 monitor.

Yeah 1440p does seem to be the sweet spot.

Plus the fact that many of these come direct from Fallout 3, so probably made around 2007/8 when even high end PC's struggled with 1920x1080, so many are deliberately low poly to run on as many machines as possible.

I remember playing it on an AMD card with 512mb of VRAM, it wasn't good.
