About this image

So I calculated how much damage, can missiles do in Fallout 1/2 and New Vegas. The results were frankly put insane. Of course, I went for the tankiest build possible and it's rather generalized, but I have been thinking just how badly New Vegas is balanced, especially from Lore Perspective. I mean, a weapon that can turn a deathclaw, yao guai and x-42 robo scorpion into pile of dush/goo is less dangerous that a simple missile. It gets worse with ammo fixes, which I took into calculation here. Impact damage didn't exist in Fallout 1 or 2.

"Immersion" wise it probably makes sense for explosives to be that lethal because no one and nothing is going to be safe from the raw concussive force regardless of how thick its skin or armor is. Classic Fallouts had very abstract tabletop-style mechanics suitable for isometric grid view turn-based play.

Explosives are no-go for me on the hardcore mode. Weight too much to carry around with other weapons, ammo, and supplies, need too much skill and perk investments to not get crippled by the accidental splash damage and far, far too easy to screw the faction standing by killing NPCs with the collateral. They're great for slaying things in the open but half of the time I'm finding fights in tight spaces with little room to escape the splash.

Too much hassle to be worth it even with the damage they can do.

I don't mind NPC having them in their current state. It's the one area where the enemies have advantage over the player character.

I use a mod that makes explosives have way more damage and a have bigger explosion radius, you may think that this would make explosives incredibly op but it actually kills me more than the enemies. Anyways, in my mind immersion beats balance any day of the week.

Immersion? How rockets being stronger and even more ridiculous than they are now is more immersion? In Fallout 2 or 1 Plasma rifle and such were still plenty strong, dealing more damage than a missile launcher due to lower cost of AP. In New Vegas they are okay at best. When it should be guns<explosives<energy weapons. Heck critical hits from pulse rifle could deal 300 damage or more.

I'm not talking about immersion based on lore from fallout 1 and 2, what I'm talking about is immersion based on real life. Explosives in real life are deadly, explosives in the game should be the same.

Sawyer made some tweaks in his mod, if I'm not mistake.

Anyway, nobody (but me) uses explosives, so I guess is not a big deal XD

I don't use them, since I prefer other types of weapons. Having said that, it's pretty astonishing how powerful explosives are. Of course there are many other powerful weapons. But missiles are plentiful and can two shoot most enemies. Especially with appropriate perks.

Pure dt system as it is, doesn't make things better. Overall, a good rebalance mod is recommended.
