***WMXUE has been discontinued***
(This is a copy of a post that I originally made on 28 January 2014, and linked to as a forum page, before the Nexus broke the forum versions of mod page comment threads during a site update. They did say they would fix that, but it's got to be at least a year at this point with no fix in sight, so... that seems less and less likely to happen.)
So why was WMXUE "discontinued", and what does this mean? "Discontinued" means that I won't be updating it or its add-ons as I have with WMX. WMXUE is still available as an 'Old' version, but it is considered obsolete and unsupported.
As an alternative, I released the 'WMX-DLCMerged' add-on that can be used instead of the individual WMX-DLC add-ons, and the 'WMX-POPMerged' add-on that can be used instead of the individual WMX-PreOrderPack add-ons. These are collected together into the WMX-DLC package, which incorporates a FOMOD menu that lets you choose from individual or merged plugins.
As to *why*: The need for an alternate version of every add-on/patch just to handle WMXUE was a royal pain for both mod users and authors. This WMX-DLCMerged approach only results in one more required plugin in the load order compared to the WMXUE approach, but makes compatibility much easier - and much less confusing for users - since the alternate WMXUE versions of WMX add-ons and patches are no longer needed.
I wish I had thought of this earlier; way back before I gave permission for Toffer90 to merge things together into WMXUE, ideally. I regret doing that. I was always hesitant because I knew it would become a pain... and I was right.
In any case: If you're currently using WMXUE, you don't have to switch to WMX and WMX-DLCMerged if you don't want to; you can keep using it. If you *do* want to switch, I'd generally recommend waiting until you're about to start a new game before doing so, but even that may not be strictly necessary.
It's not something I've tested with WMXUE specifically (though it seemed to work fine when I switched from individual WMX-DLC plugins to WMX-DLCMerged in the same way), but you should be able to simply uninstall WMXUE (without using the in-game WMX Uninstall Menu) and then install the latest versions of WMX and WMX-DLCMerged. Note however that you'll lose any items added by WMXUE in the process, so to minimise this you should first attach all weapon mods you have to weapons, where possible. Finally, just load your savegame and continue.
