Placed in a cubbyhole of a shelving unit just behind the curved reception counter at the main entrance. Avoid using explosives in that area, otherwise the key could be blown to some other location and be very difficult to find (especially if the game's physics engine messes up and allows the key to drop through the floor - which can actually happen).

Had night vision turned on and the ranger helmet blocks vision at the bottom and the edges/corners of the screen if you were wondering.
So is he supposed to be there or is it a bug?

thanks for posting these informations, and so thoughtfully marked and hidden as spoilers for those who want to explore the area themselves. :-)
I am one of those, and I liked the experience in the Visitors Center very much, but I had to resort to your article because I couldn't find the two keys. The one in the entrance hall is still a miracle to me, though I searched every inch of the room and the shelves. And how on earth do I get up to loot Alfie's corpse? Hopped around on the rocks for ages, and Veronica and ED-E were already exchanging glances... :-)
It would be great if you were willing to help me, please.
