The Bethblog brings the news that the Steam Workshop for Skyrim has had its 10,000th mod uploaded. Steam Workshop conducted an interview with the modder joedamarsio, for whom the mod was his first mod.

This past week the Skyrim Workshop reached another milestone – it’s 10,000th mod. The mod, Shannara Weapon Set from joedamarsio, with an interview from the Skyrim Creation Kit (Public) Steam Group. Here’s an snippet…

Any advice you would offer to anyone playing Skyrim who maybe thinks about trying to make a mod but is intimidated?

It’s overwhelming when you first look at all the options on the Creation Kit but if you follow the Wiki it will talk you through everything and make modding a pleasurable and fun experience

Off the main topic here but I signed your petition...good luck fighting the good fight. If the Cease and Desist continues, maybe you can just change the content/name enough to get around it!

Thanks for that. Yeah, it is quite shocking that WB would be interested in doing this; honestly, we weren't THAT well known. Of course, we are now .

Anyways, the team at MERP is still hoping we can work out an agreement to allow us to continue; it has been done before for other fan works so we hope we can do it here too. If not (perish the thought), a lot of the team wants to stick together and work on another project; we gathered all this talent and ambition and most of us don't want to see it go to waste. Plus, the team has always been a pretty great group to be a part of, so it would be a bit sad to just let it fall apart cause of this.

    Anyways, thanks again!

@Nuvendile: Thanks for understanding. I heard about WB swooping in and putting a stop to this. I was really looking forward to your release and am a huge Tolkien fan myself. Not only will I sign it I will also send out pms to all my friends and ask them to as well. Horrific what they are doing by bullying you guys with their ridiculously expensive lawyers and trying to stop you from releasing your work to the public. Old J.R.R. must be spinning in his grave. Absolutely I will sign that petition right now. And the offer still stands to call on me anytime.

Hey, no worries . The internet gets to all of us from time to time; every site has hordes of trolls, fanboys, whiners, flamers, and all manner of other unsavory types. Maintaining patience in the chaos is a challenge to be sure . And I thank you for the offer. At present, I personally don't need any help with anything. However, the MERP project, which I am a part of, is in a bit of a bind. Have a look at Moddb http://www.moddb.com/mods/merp-middle-earth-roleplaying-project and the petition. That is all I would ask for

@Nuvendile: My apologies. I misunderstood who that was directed at and didn't mean for that to come off as a personal attack. I read through your most recent post twice and agree with absolutely everything you said. While I am not extremely impressed with blind Nexus worship, because of those issues I have little patience for the Workshop fanbois in particular. I am so sorry I misunderstood and lumped you in with them and do sincerely apologize for that. Nice to see someone with intelligence and some very good points to make other than "I luv nexis!" or "I luv werkshap!" If there is ever anything I can help you with please don't hesitate to ask.

I never said modding was perfect or Workshop was perfect. However, you act like Workshop is the source of all woes, that it is what causes modders to quit and so on. Not to detract from that statement, as I am sure it has been the cause in cases, but I have seen modders get pissed and stomp off after being "offended" by one or two Nexus members, nevermind the THOUSANDS that support them. So modders getting pissed and leaving is nothing new, though always a sad thing. Of course, in this case the modders are justified in doing so whereas in the former case they were just, in my opinion, being rather over-sensitive. But I digress.

That being said, I am also disgusted with mod piracy but then again, the Workshop is brand new, it hasn't been around very long at all and with Skyrim mod use as popular as it is, the likely under-staffed Steam Workshop maintenance group has got a ton on their plate (things that Valve probably considers more important) like making the mod installation and update system better (at launch it was a wretched mess, as predicted). Now that doesn't excuse their behavior; I too hope they do something about this of course, as an artist and writer I understand one being defensive about their work.

As a side note, no I don't use Steam Workshop. Not just because of the obvious mod theft but due to the fact that it is in its infancy and is being run by people who have not even a tenth the experience of the people at Nexus. I would say give it some time and also continue to bug them to death. Like I said, it is still in its infancy; in my opinion, they obviously didn't do nearly enough research into the world of Modding or they would be far more familiar with modding etiquette and the like.

I wasn't trying to attack the rational concerns, so sorry if it came off that way. And I wasn't really protecting Steam Workshop. I was more getting at the "Nexus forever!" and "Steam is the PC gaming Messiah!" and "Steam is the Antichrist of gaming!" ranting nonsense; such fanboyism drives me up the wall .

Anyway, glad to see there are people with rational concerns and not just f a n b o i s out there; I was actually not aware the piracy problem had gotten that bad since I have never even been on Steam Workshop myself. So for those people doing something about the piracy thing, keep it up.

@IcyDeadPeOple: Nice to see something is finally being done about this. Maybe Workshop has taken notice of this issue and decided to clean their act up. To be honest, after getting so disgusted with no action being taken before I haven't even been to Workshop and kept Steam offline so I didn't even have to see it. I will look through these and take a stroll through Workshop after talking to a couple of friends to see if their issue was resolved. I'll let you know.

Thanks for letting us know something is now being done about this. Might change my opinion quite a bit.

Edit: Went to the link and saw it was all done by modders. Much respect to all involved in kicking Steam in the butt to move on this. Still no respect for Steam for having to be forced to do the right thing. Sent you a pm also.

If there are any current Steam Workshop mods that you believe to be plagiarized or otherwise inappropriate, please send me a PM.

All the mods that were once listed here have been removed.
