Security update for Nexus Mod Manager

Today we are releasing some security updates for the Nexus Mod Manager to bring us in line with the new EU GDPR rules coming into force next month.

NMM has been "end-of-line" since 2016, which means we no longer provide any official support for the software, but we thought it was prudent to spend the time and money to release this update so our users could continue to use the software's online services while ensuring we're compliant with the new regulations. We also did not want people to think we were using the GDPR as an excuse to force people on to our new mod manager, Vortex, either. The alternative was to simply turn off the old services completely, essentially making NMM, and any other software using our old login services, offline only.

To prevent any drama with this process, we've even patched up version 0.52.3 of NMM (the last version before the profile functionality was added) so there are no complaints.

In order to be compliant, we need to turn off our old, less secure login to the web services completely. We plan to do this on Tuesday the 8th of May. This will mean anyone who does not update their NMM will no longer be able to use NMM online. This will prevent you from being able to login, check for new file versions or download mods from the site directly in to NMM. This will also affect any other software that uses the old login destination and method, for example, Mod Organizer. We do not officially support Mod Organizer, nor is it made, updated or maintained by us, so any updates needed to ensure it works with our new login service will need to be handled by the team behind Mod Organizer. If you are currently a coder with software making use of the old Nexus login system, please do get in contact via PM or Discord and I will put you through to the appropriate person to help you get on to the newer system as soon as possible.

For convenience, both updated versions of NMM can be found on a new file page setup to make this a little easier. Remember, download 0.65.0 if you are using a version of NMM that is 0.60.x or later. Download 0.52.4 if you are using version 0.52.3 of NMM.

Apologies for the inconvenience caused, but it's 8 year old code now and, at some point, this was going to happen!

      Life69 ... i have no idea what's going wrong with 65.2 ask the people here. im trying all versions and nothing works.I will go crazy in the end

      Download this https://github.com/Nexus-Mods/Nexus-Mod-Manager/releases/ . You don't need to unistall anything, just install this version and it'll overwrite everything.

    Wow, I'm seriously speechless. I waited 10 years to play my favorite games with mods, and not even 5 months after I get my PC, y'all pull this bullshit. I f***ing hate people. I really do. They're such shit.

    Why would you remove support for the Nexus Mod Manager? Just recreate it under a new code but, with the same simplistic layout and look. Vortex is just too glossy and has more things that are embedded in it. It gets confusing after a while..

      They stopped supporting NMM years ago, it's been having community updates since.

    I've been reading the comments and practically every single one of the reports problems with not only the update but the entire situation. I'm confused, should I update NMM? I can't log in on my mod manager but apparently you can't add any new mods with the new update... what do I do?

    I have now NMM 0.65.04. I can login, but updates are failed. And every Mod I install is marked as esm. (Warning: This plugin has the file extension esp, but its file header marks it as an esm. ) I can't change load order now. I had this mods some time before downloaded and all was ok. But after reinstall allways as esm. What can I do? Sorry for my english.

    Smells like "Open Ended Tool Suicide" orders to me. Based on the layout of 'Vortex', it seems all's not well because it's not ending well... the age of simple and useful tools for the general public is bought out by flashy animations and Steam Gaming. I will hope not to be phased out by all of this... and as far as updating my NMM, comments make it clear it's likely to be just as painful as the last 3 times I tried to update it. Manually importing mods through my current version of NMM for now, it is the new norm.

    My head is spinning from all of this...

    I'm going to have to ask some potentially dumb questions in order to sort this out in my head.

    1) Have people actually gotten Mod Organizer to work with the new login fix?

    2) Is the login fix specifically for the Mod Organizer that handles regular Skyrim? as in Non Special Edition.

    3) Have people found issues with MO even after using the login fix? Or is the fix "Do and forget"? this question is directed at those with heavily modded games.

    I'm looking for a way to continue modding without being hit with unforeseen errors out of nowhere that I'm not going to be able to understand and fix by myself, I've read as much as I can stand on this thread, everytime I think I've found a fix, someone has come back and said that it's unreliable or doesn't work or whatever, I hope you can all understand my frustration here, but I'm fed up with it, the thing that was once a fun hobby of mine has now turned into a "Vortex" of confusion, mixed information, and a bloody nightmare in general.

    I'm not a tech savvy individual, so when I get errors that sound along the lines of "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation." like what I had with NMM before I deleted it, my god...Wow! how does Microsoft expect anyone to fix their own problems with insane techno babble like that, that sentence doesn't even make sense for god sake. *Facepalm*

    Anyway, sorry for the rant, but please help me understand what I'm doing, I feel like my brain is broken right now, everytime I get myself pumped up to tackle starting over with a new manager, so much uncertainty gets in the way. (x_x)

    I have even tried Vortex, to see if it was as simple as Gopher makes it sound, but I quickly found it beyond me in its current state, it needs a drag and drop system for its load order which currently it doesn't have, instead, you have to jump through hoops, telling the manager where to load mods and their masters via a kind of "Connect the dots" way, which gets quite head spinny after a while.

    When it says something is conflicting, it doesn't seem to tell you exactly what "Specific" file it's conflicting with, only the whole mod and the number of conflicting files, so I found myself just sitting there, wracking my brains as to what the problem might be and if it would cause problems at all, as I stared at this red thunderbolt symbol telling me there's a problem with said mods that I "Needed to resolve" to quote it's wording, making it sound more urgent then it actually may have been.

    Either way, I'm gonna wait on that one for now, I disabled the mods I had enabled in Vortex, then checked to see if it had properly removed the files from the data folder, and it did not, the Caliente file from Bodyslide was still there as well as others, so I just deleted the data folder and verified game cache to get the essential game files back, consider this as your warning of Vortex's current shenanigans lol.

    Thank you very much.  I will look into that later today.  I do thinki that at least two of the Mods I am running require at least 0.53 so I will check and see if I have anything else that lists a more recent version.
