This alpha release includes most of the areas to be included with the final release, but the plot only covers Act I (out of five), for about five hours of gameplay. While some sidequests have been rebuilt, and new ones added, many important sidequests from the original have not yet been rebuilt (including the Morrigu quest).

Aside from rebuilt exterior areas that make more extensive use of terrain triggers, this version also includes significant improvements to the ambient animation system, the tactical AI, and the trading scripts (first implemented in 'The Dana'an Unvanquished'). The main purpose of this alpha release is to give both players and builders a chance to experience these systems and either adapt them for their own use, or other suggestions for improvement.

Ambient NPCs now respond to shouts. NPCs will shout to each other, but the player can also use the chat window to issue their own shouts:
"perform" - draws a crowd while the shouter performs. The audience will reward good performances with gold.
"follow" - idle NPCs follow the shouter.
"goaway" - NPCs flee from the shouter.
"comehere" - NPCs move towards the shouter.
"lookatme" - NPCs turn toward the shouter.

During the "Line in the Sand" quest, your PC will lead a small squad. These squad members can not be directly controlled, nor can you issue them orders. They will try to follow the PC and fight as the PC does. They cannot die, and will run away when seriously wounded. Basically, they are not there for you to micromanage, but just to give you support during battle.

Note that friendly troops that rout during battle may rally behind your PC. Though they are not actual squad members, they will take up position within your squad's formation.
