Journal entry 43 Sixteen men were lost last night in the maelstrom that now has us adrift. The ships mast cracked in half as if it were a twig to the claws of that dark monster of a storm. Bosun Smith crushed under its weight before my eyes.
We now languish in the duldrums after the storm pulled along by some strange currents. Not a ripple in the tattered sails yet we move at a good clip. There by foul magic in the air. A lookout has said that land be off to the west, though it only be jagged rocks I see. 'Course that would be better than floating in the nothin' The lookout also says that he sees a tower spire, but by sun and stars, we are many leagues from man nor beast. The sun be playin' tricks on us all.
