WARNING: This mod is designed with realistic difficulty in mind, in order to be able to enjoy the mod to its fullest you must play the normal difficulty! Don't play on very easy as this might be boring.

WARNING #2: Use latest ATC version that corresponds to your M&B II: Bannerlord version and follow my instructions very carefully.

This mod replaces the Imperial recruits and Elite Troops you can normally recruit from Imperial (North, West and South) settlements with my units.

### As with any mods that introduce troop trees with custom unit ids, BACKUP YOUR SAVE.

### If you want the Banner Logos in the screenshot, here's the code. Go download a Mod to enable Ctr + v Banner in-game.

  • Thanks to Adonnay for his troop tree template, without him I wouldn't dare to even try modding Bannerlord or learning how to code .XML files efficiently. Go check out his ATC - Adonnay's Troop Changer mod page for more information on how to create your own troop tree + item list!
  • Also credit to Creative Assembly and Total War Attila for reference to their unit models.

Description:

  •  Adds a new troop tree based on the Eastern Roman Empire / Late Roman Empire (4th Century) into the game ONLY for players and their clan members. Replaces the Imperial Recruits from Imperial Settlements with Tiro (Meaning recruit) and the Elite Viglia troops with Tagma Recruit while the AI cannot recruit this type of unit.
  • However for settlements under the ownership of the Player's kingdom, your parties and companions are allowed to recruit Roman troops through them.

  • Also adds new items that are based on Historical Roman Armors and Weapons, like "Lorica Hamata" or "Contus". The armor/weapons you see in the pictures are not vanilla items but custom items that I have implemented, their stats will be very different and you can sometimes find these items in the town trading menu. Some of the high tier body armours will also have custom market value to prevent over-pricing.

  • I recommend that you use an item editor or cheat to spawn custom items into your character. Otherwise they will either be found on loot when your troops die. However if you are patient, they will eventually spawn in shops reasonably priced.

  • There are many troop lines with functions similar to their historical counterparts (4th Century Roman Army).

  • Units have custom weapons and armor, don't expect them to behave the same way as vanilla armor. The Tier 5 Roman Infantry will be as tanky as other faction equivalents, if not more.

  • The normal infantry troop tree is split into two halves with the left part being focused primarily on melee units while the right part focuses on ranged units. Historically, Rome's heavy infantry formed the backbone of their army while heavy cavalry was gradually seen as something that would equally be as important as the infantry. This is reflected in the troop tree with a strong infantry line, they take more punishment than other faction's troops but will eventually die quickly if overwhelmed.

  • The elite troops tree is also split into two halves with left being elite bodyguard units and the right splitting into shock, melee and ranged cavalry. Most units are inspired from the game Total War Attila.

Installation:

  • Requires ATC - Adonnay's Troop Changer to function properly.
  • For this mod's manual installation by dropping it into your Mount & Blade II Bannerlord > Modules is acceptable (steamapps/common/Mount & Blade II Bannerlord/Modules); enable the mod (Eastern Roman Troops) in the Game Launcher along with ATC - Adonnay's Troop Changer.
  • Start a new game or load an existing save and the troops should spawn in Imperial settlements after a while (The game will spawn in the source troops "Imperial Recruits" initially, wait for the AI parties to recruit them and Tiros should spawn shortly afterwards).
  • I'm pretty sure installation through Vortex also works but I've never used it. If Vortex deploys the mods to your Modules folder then it should be alright. If custom troops are not spawning then please check ProgramData > Mount and Blade II Bannerlord > ATC > ATC.config.merged.xml and see if the file is there. Otherwise make sure to not use incompatible mods such as BannerKings when using ATC.

Conclusion

  • Thanks for trying out my mod!
  • Highly recommend controlling the units manually to make full use of their quirks and gear, just pressing F3 will get more of your troops killed than usual if fighting a proper army.
  • For balancing things, the unit stat-lines are made as intended. Tier 7 Cavalry will be devastating in open field battles while infantry will reign supreme in siege or close quarters combat.
