About this mod

Rebalanced shields with stats that make sense when looking at material, reinforcements and size.
Now you can see how strong the enemys shield is by looking at it.
Big shields are heavy and slow, small light and fast.
Part of my price overhaul.

HV's Shield Overhaul

Rebalanced shields in different ways:

1: Size --> speed, weight, Thrust speed
  • small shields are fast and light
  • big shields are slower and heavier

  • Material of the shield has no effect on weight and speed for gameplay reasons. I hate to run slower because I have a better shield. No more perfect makeshift shields!
  • [since v.2.0]  Thrust speed defines how fast you can change block direction. Big shields are slow in handling now

  • For Warband veterans: weight of the shields has no effect on crush trough anymore! (as I understand it)

2: Material --> hit points
  • better materials result in more hit points
  • damaged planks --> planks --> leather cover --> metal boss --> leather rim --> metal rim --> big metal rim  --> struts --> metal covering more parts on front

  • You can see if the enemys shield is good or bad. A makeshift shield will not be very sturdy. Native is inconsistend with that.
  • The shields range from 180 to 580 hit points, balanced to native values.
  • Exception: old battered shields (Tier1) 50 to 70 Hit points

3: Native Tiers
  • I need to respect the original balancing. Otherwise good troops might suddenly have a bad shield and gameplay is priority #1. A shield that doesn't look much stronger than one that is a tier lower, needs to be a bit stronger nonetheless, because higher troops will use that shield. (That case is very rare so dont worry about it.)

4: Price balancing --> value
  • old and battered tier 1 shields are quite cheap (and bad)
  • So shields are more expensive than in vanilla! They are worth something now.

Value = (Hit Points+5)³ x 0.00018 + 400

5: Appearance
  • (defines how often an item appears in shops.)
  • Changed the appearance of every shield in relation to the hit points.

  • So the best shields are actually rare, tier 1 shields are very common.
  • These changes will need time when applied to an existing campaign!
  • In Vanilla most shields have an appearance of "1", some random of "0.1"

6: Random stats balancing --> body_armor="1"
  • Shields have a hidden stat "body_armor". Some shields had that up to 17 without a reason while every other shield has body_armor="1". Every shield  has body_armor="1" now because you can't see this stat in-game, it's way more compatible with different mods and it doesn't make such a big difference to be honest if you just have a big pool of hp or a small hp pool and a big armor.

7: Small name changes for tier 1 shields
  • to make the bad tier 1 shields obvious I renamed them as "old and/or battered". The vanilla names didn't make sense for the destructed state of the models.

Compatibility
  • Made in e1.5.4
  • Save to uninstall whenever you want
  • Should be compatible with every other mod out there that doesn't change shields
