About this mod

Do you go into battles with forest bandits knowing they're all snipers? Do you go to battle with any bandit group knowing exactly what to expect?
Well not anymore! This mod randomizes the weapons and gear of all bandits creating an unexpected experience, everytime.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
The idea behind this mod is simple, stop bandit groups from being so predictable!
To that end, the weapons and gear of all bandit groups have received an expansion. While they maintain focus on their primary elements (such as sea raiders loving javelins and spears), you can now expect to see forest bandits using a spear and shield, a random looter tossing knives, Bedouins with bows, ...

Additionally, every bandit group had ranged (and some female) units added with different percentages (configurable) to allow more balanced combat.
Troop trees have not been altered greatly, only essential variants added. Other elements either use or replace native.

It may take time for new variants to become visible on an existing save. Current bandits are not affect, newly spawned ones will contain them however. A new campaign is not required, but if you'd like to see them directly it is recommended.

Configurable!
This mod is fully configurable, you can edit the settings in the relevant file

This mod is part of the True Gameplay Overhaul pack
Sort order is irrelevant, all modules can be used alone or together (though it is recommended to use them all to get the maximum experience)

True Companions Traits and Skills - Fixes the 1.4.3+ bug where companions lack traits and sometimes skills are set to 0
True Noble Opinion - Fixes the opinions of nobles and mercs to be separate from the clan leader
True Limits - Set your own limits and formulas for various calculations such as party sizes and maximum prisoners
True Perks - Gives functionality to some of the blatantly non-functional perks
True Gifts - Adjusts the barter gifts and favorable trades to have more of an impact, depending on personalities
True Mortality - Companions can actually die from their wounds, if you're not careful
True Relations - Your reputation with those around you will change with your actions, thus you will earn traits and skills accordingly
True Prisoners - What's the point of prisoners if they can magically escape, keep them shackled with this mod
True Villagers - Make your villagers more interesting and survivable, with expanded militias and reinforced villager parties
True Brigands - Add some flavor, variety and unpredictability to your bandits, safety not included
True Arena Experience - Gain full XP during arena fights and tournaments

Full mods list and future plans listed under the True Gameplay Overhaul page

As this mod adds new troops, they will need to be eliminated if you want to remove this mod. Please disable the main module and enable the "True Brigands Disabler", it will swiftly eliminate custom troops and newly spawned bandits will be vanilla.

(for modders:) Uses a harmony patch to change the behavior of MobileParty > FillPartyStacks to allow more than 3 stacks when the partType is brigands, otherwise no effect

This mod is intended to be used with the "True Combat simulation" (to be released) and "True Crime" (to be released)

List of changes by bandit group:
- Looters:
Added a wide range of civilian gear, several new weapons, a few rare ranged weapons (throwing knives and axes) as well as the occasional spear or shield.
Also received a support unit, the poacher, a looter level archer with low skills. New female variant integrated based on popular request.

- Sea Raiders:
Extended the range of low / mid level armors and weapons used, added archer and shield maiden variants. Warriors and veterans are now all full armored in chainmail and pose a more serious threat in combat.

- Forest Bandits:
Large selection of gear and weapons, with lowest level bandits using melee weapons and occasional shields. Higher level brigands remain as archers at more reasonable levels, with lots of variations.

- Mountain Bandits:
Massive selection of gear and weapons. Female and archer variants added. All members use low to min level gear, suitable for their savage selves. Group numbers have been boosted to better reflect them as a horde.

- Steppe Bandits:
Wider selection of melee weapons, gear and bows. No more all spear and recurve bow. Horses varied as well to allow for different attack speed and greatly lower blobbing and predictability.

- Desert bandits:
All gear reduced to light and group numbers boosted to better reflect them as roving Bedouin bands. They will use sabres, scimitars, spears, bows, a variety of horses, and they will absolutely try to kill you with their high skills.

Bandit bosses were also randomized to allow more interesting fights. All ranged bandits will use different types of bows and ammunition to suit their location and culture.

v1.0.1: Fixed duplicate weapon types (duel shields, dual spears, ...)
v1.0.2: Added upgrade paths for female characters
v1.0.3: Added female character to the steppe bandits
v1.0.4: New variations added to forest and desert bandits
v1.0.5: Disabler modified to automatically convert custom troops back top native if needed
v1.0.6: Fixed native bandit bosses to use their own classes and have the relevant gear
v1.1.0: Added a configuration file and a template generator
v1.1.1: Corrected the upgrade path for bedouin cavalry
v1.1.2: Modified default config files and code cleanup

Future plan!
- Make bandit sizes configurable for maximum experience (done)
- Allow dynamically generated and named bandit heroes to form armies and battle nobles, raid villages and perhaps even conquer a weakened settlement.
