About this mod

A mod for more engaging campaign map gameplay via a rebuilt spotting range and party detection system.

Permissions and credits
"Loose lips sink armored cavalry formations."

A highly compatible mod for 1.4.x providing improved campaign level gameplay.

Install or uninstall without adversely impacting your current playthrough.

The goal of this mod is to make gameplay on the strategic map more engaging and realistic. The theory is that by improving visibility and detection, the player will be faced with decisions more interesting than simply "which party is faster?".

  • Detectability of parties is determined by distance, faction type, state of war, day/night, raiding status, and forests.
  • Allied Parties and Armies are always visible but uninspected. This includes PlayerClan units (but does not include caravans or villagers).
  • Neutral Armies are always visible but uninspected.
  • "View Distance" set to 20. The Scouting ability functions normally and does make it easier to spot other parties.

For now.
At first, I thought the vanilla system worked both ways, but that doesn't seem to be the case. However, I think I can change that and will be looking at campaign AI behaviors.

  • Delving into AI behaviors and introducing detection mechanics.
  • Introducing ability based modifiers to hiding and seeking.
  • Adding a IsPlayerClan bool so that player clan units can be inspectable regardless of range independently of allied units.
  • Adding player chosen options letting you decide how unforgiving the visibility system should be.
  • Spymaster role? Espionage? No promises.

"View Distance" simply refers to your maximum possible view distance. Most parties will not be detectable at this distance. Before modifiers
(mostly on the "hide" side of things), your detection range is 20% of your view distance.

Neutral parties moving to join a neutral army are visible despite not being inside the Army. It seems they are already considered part of that army. This is a minor issue but one I haven't been able to correct.

To install, place "HideAndSeek" folder in ...\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules and activate the mod.
To uninstall, deactivate and delete the "HideAndSeek" folder from ...\Modules.

This mod uses NoHarmonyLoader to replace the DefaultMapVisibilityModel.
This mod also uses Harmony to "prefix and ignore" PartyBase.UpdateVisibilityAndInspected.

Should be compatible with all other mods.
Updates to Native should also be compatible.
