About this mod

Notables will now produce tier 2 troops and up (no more recruits). Lord armies will no longer spawn with recruits. Troop trees have been amended to account for the change in base unit to a tier 2 unit. Correction of unit equipement and overhaul of certain faction units. Makes lord armies much more challenging.

No more recruit troops overhaul

I made this mod because fighting AI recruit rabble, as well as having to grind looters to level my own recruits gets old quickly. Both these problems seem to come from lack of a levelling skill and the argo campaign AI (both of which will hopefully get fixed at some point).

This mod:
  • sets troops from notables to one tier higher i.e. tier 1 recruits are replaced by a tier 2 troop (no more recruits), tier 2 by 3 etc;
  • reworks each troop tree to accommodate having only one tier 2 basic troop (Bannerlord only allows each troop to upgrade twice so by compressing the tiers from 1-5 to 2-5  I’ve had to remove some low tier troop types (e.g. imperials no longer have a tier 2 archer, instead they get their first archer at tier 3));
  • amended the lord spawn parties list to remove recuits and old units; and
  • made additional change to troops to make factions more distinct (e.g. Sturgia is now focused on two-handed anti infantry axemen – see changes log below for more details).

The end result is that tactics are more important as lord armies get much stronger.

Installation
Extract the file to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules then enable the mod in your console. You shouldn’t need to overwrite anything.

N.B. because this mod adds new troops rather than editing existing files (which could break on patch updates) any save game with the new troops will crash without the mod installed.

You can install the mod in an existing save. The new troops will spawn once the old troops are taken from the recruitment slots (i.e on the recruitment slot refresh).

Troop Change log
All noble troops are untouched and remain the same as in native – they can also be recruited at the same level and frequency as in native

Empire
Focus: armored troops, heavy defensive infantry.
  • New basic troop – Imperial Infantry men
  • The equipment set up meant that some of their units didn’t spawn shoulder armour. This meant that troops in the same could have around 10 armor difference. This has been corrected.
  • In Native, empire troops usually have 10 armor more than other faction's equivalent units. This wasn’t true for their tier 3 infantry, I’ve updated their armour to correct this.
  • Their spear troops now have javelins rather than swords so that they will use their polearms in melee.
  •  Legionaries now carry swords and maces rather than mix and match.

Stugia
Focus:  Anti infantry two handed axemen and strongshield walls.
  • New basic troop – Sturgian warriors who use two-handedaxes. They are the only basic troop lacking a shield makeing them vulnerable to ranged troops. On the upside, they mow through infantry (if you let them get close to you). Think of them as easy to recruit berserker type troops.
  • Their infantries' armour has been increased generally across the board (on average they now have 10-15 less armor than empire troops). Berserker and Ulf troops now wear amour.
  • Woodsmen have been retooled as axe troops. Unlike warriors these troops have shields and throwing axes as well their two-handed axes.  Use fire at will commands to make them switch between shields/throwing axes and their two-handed axes. They will automatically draw their two-handed weapon in melee.
  • Berserkers and Ulf troops now have shields and throwing axes as well like woodsmen.

Battannia
Focus: Skirmishers and ranged troops with medium infantry.
  • Basic troop – Woodrunner. I tried dedicated archer troops but AI shield walls are still not up to scratch to handle that level of fire. They have had their shields improved to bossed shields rather than strapped so they have better shielding while throwing their javelins.
  • Raiders and Oathsworn have been retooled to an archer line. They have the same bows as the noble line, but less skill, less armor, and one handed weapons.
  • Scout and Skirmisher cavalary have been merged into one new mounted skirmisher line (similar to Sturgian brigand lines).

Vlandia
Focus: Polearmtroops, crossbows and knights
  • Basic troop – Vlandian Footmen, now withshields. Originally I made them into crossbow and spear troops (for pike and shot type formations), unfortunately AI use of shield walls is currently not able to handle that.
  • Tier 3 crossbowman now use spears instead of swords for anti cav. The polearm line has been merged into the crossbowline. These polearm carrying crossbow men have better armor, but worse crossbows than the equivalent crossbowmen.

Khuziat
Focus: Horsearchers
  • Basic troops – Khuziat footmen. Yes, I know it should be cavalry. First I tried horse archers – they killed everything. Then I tried light cavalry – they killed everything. Then I made a custom Steppe pony with 100hp rather than 200hp, and created a light cavalry that required a horse to upgrade to tier 3 – they still killed everything... Spear walls and AI use of spear is deliberately nerfed by the developers at the moment meaning that cavalry doesn’t have an effective counter, so I’ve left these as infantry for balance reasons until the spear AI gets corrected (either by patch or mod).

Aserai
Jack of alltrades
  • Basic Troop – Aserai Tribesmen now with shields.
