The Vlandians did not come to Calradia as one peoples, but as a collection of numerous tribes. Among them were the Massans. Unlike the Vlandians, the Massans held closer ties to their old Northern homeland, and as such cling to old traditions. Be it their preference for shieldwalls or their gilded crafts, they are distinct to their southern cousins.

Stylistically, you can figure out that this culture is meant to be more inspired by Angles, Saxons, Jutes and Frisians, with a touch of Tolkien-esque fantasy. Tactically, they are infantry/cavalry army, with a greater emphasis on the 'anvil' as opposed to the Vlandian 'hammer', though that is not to say a Ostlingas Royal Thegn is no less formidable than a Vlandian Banneret.
