I love the Mod but the lack of individual names for the Centurions started to annoy me.

So I did some research and have replaced "Centurion" with real (in most cases) Roman names. I couldn't resist adding some of Monty Pythons as well...

It is almost impossible to find the names of real Centurions.

However, there are plenty of lists of famous Roman Generals.

So the names of the Centurions are those of real Roman generals.

It is not really practical to use their full names which can be up to four individual components, such as Lucius Aemilius Paulus Macedonicus or Gnaeus Cornelius Lentulus Clodianus. This would make them just as forgettable as "Centurion" by itself.

So generally each name is just Centurion followed by the family name or cognomen of famous generals. Cognomen were used by the Romans to distinguish similar sounding people. The Romans had a limited number of family names so a cognomen based on a feature of the person or their location was added to distinguish them from others. It is a bit like having a population made up of only Smith, Jones and Brown.

Some cognomen obviously refer to a location, hence we have a Centurion Africanus. Julius Caesar's cognomen (Caesar) actually means "hairy".

Enough of the history/latin lesson...

This file is for use with the 4SF version of the mod..
