  • File authors: tag your files to confirm them

As mentioned a couple of days back the file tagging system is now up and running. All users who have uploaded files, are going to upload files, or admins of the site can tag their files themselves and completely ignore the voting system necessary to confirm tags. The original system remains the same; 3 agreements are necessary from users on a specific tag before it becomes confirmed, that is, before it can be found via the tag search feature, but on top of this the uploader of a file, or a site ...

  • Tagging and you

The tagging system has now been recoded and added to file pages across the download database. All the original tagging suggestions have been retained and the system dynamics have remained unchanged. Users suggest tags for files and if two other users agree (for a total of 3 tag suggestions) then the tag becomes "confirmed" and the file can then be found via that tag. Going hand-in-hand with the ability to tag files is the ability to search for files via their tags. This has also been released...

  • Morrowind Modding community

You'd think that 4 years after the last expansion for Morrowind was released the Morrowind Modding forums would be rather quiet. Well it's not! While it is not as hyperactive as the Oblivion forums, Morrowind mods are still being updated and released. I wanted to mention a few mods that have been created or updated in the last months, for those people who own Morrowind and would like to give it another shot. If you don't have it, read a bit about it and then buy it! :) Julan Ashlander Co...

  • Image Share launched

As promised last night I have now released the Image Share section of the site for general use. Just like on TESSource, the Image Share feature of TESNexus allows members to upload images related to any of the Elder Scrolls games. You can use it as you wish; maybe you want to show off some cool shots of your character or perhaps you want to use the system just as a link for others to see what you're talking about. On a related note I am just putting the finishing touches on the rating popup t...

  • What's happening?

Hi folks, Thought I would fill you all in on some different events and thoughts and ideas I've had recently. I've been in a few boring 2 hour lectures recently so have had the time to scribble down some notes! First of all the Image Share feature of the site is almost complete. I just need to do the rating system, comment system and make some aesthetic tweaks and then it'll be ready for release. As I mentioned when TES Nexus launched I could not save the images from TESSource in time and t...

  • Advanced file search now available

Astute regulars to the site will have noticed the advanced file search page has just been launched for general use. You can now search for files in the database that relate to a number of different criteria, including words in the file name, description, author name and uploader name, as well as by the number of downloads, the file size, the upload date and last update of the file. Hopefully people will find this a powerful tool to help find specific mods in the database. Minimal testing done...

  • Member preferences, premium features and layout changes

This one is for all the people who do not like the blocked listing of files on the category/search pages and for the Premium members out there. There is now a preferences section within the member area that will enable you to edit a few particulars relating to the site. As a premium member you can edit how many files you see on category listings and within search results (from between 10 and 50). Similarly premium members can choose how many comments they see on each page (from between 10 and...

  • Old TESSource Supporters Reinstated

Ok, I hope this worked! Today I have reinstated the original TESSource supporters (the people who paid to help the site/for the benefits) as Premium Members on TESNexus with their original time, plus 28 more days. This (obviously) only applies to those people who were still have Supporter time remaining on TESSource when it went down. It should all work, so please let me know if it doesn't!...

  • Plans for the future

Well I've finally got the internet setup in my house. A nice 20mbit line to help when downloading mods! It's good to see the site is much more stable, and as far as I know, it hasn't crashed once in the last week! Woo. I'm actually heading back home this weekend to welcome back a friend who has been down-under (that's Australia) for the past 6 months, but I thought I'd chime in on various matters so people don't think I have forgotten about them. First of all thank you for all your feedbac...

  • Back to uni!

I moved my room 30 miles up the road to Exeter University to start my third of four years today. I will not have any internet in the house until at least Friday, but will be home again at the weekend anyway. Therefore I will be unable to reply to any of your emails (of which there are about 2,000!) or forum posts. I think I have sorted the problem with the server giving the "IPS Driver Error" now, which is good, cause I didn't even sort that one on TESSource. See, progress! Anyway, back to...

  • TESNexus header banner competition

Hi folks, When I was showcasing the site design on the official forums, before the launch of TESNexus, many people expressed their lack of appreciation for the header banner for the site (the one in the top left). Now, personally, I like it. I feel it suits the whole minimalist approach I took to the site design in the first place, following a "less flare, more functionality" approach to things. But hell, what do I know! So this one is for all the budding graphic artists out there who thin...

  • File Servers Fixed

More than likely I won't be making any major edits to the site today. After working 8 days 9am - 9pm I'm taking today off, and catching up with some much needed gaming! There are a few tweaks that need addressing, however. First off I've fixed an issue with the file servers not downloading the new files uploaded in the last 24 hours. A reminder to people that being the first downloader of a new file means you have to first wait for the file server to receive the file before you can download i...

  • Logging In

Righty, I'm about to head out the door for my first night out in a fortnight. But before I go I thought I'd just mention something quickly to people having trouble logging in: You must make sure you use the tesnexus.com domain, and not the tessource.net or tesdb.com domains. The site will not log you in if you do not use the tesnexus.com domain. Hope this helps some people. Have a good night!...

  • Oblivion: Game of the Year edition ships in North America

The GOTY edition of Oblivion has shipped in North America today for both PC and XBox. Retailing at $50 for PC owners and $60 for XBox360 owners, the game features Oblivion, Knights of the Nine, Shivering Isles and the latest game update. Here's what Ashley Cheng at the Beth Blog has to say: For Oblivion’s GOTY implementation, we wanted to make the process easier - both for us and for our fans. We’ve been working on this version since late last year. The main challenge was figuring out how...

  • Techies ponder computers smarter than us

Move along if you're looking for gaming or Elder Scrolls news here, this ones just something that interested me. Yahoo! News have a small article up on a recent event in San Fracisco, dubbed "The Singularity Summit: AI and the Future of Humanity" where the thought of near-future computers being smarter than humans is exciting some people. Interestingly, some nerds also predict a date for this event: 2029. Amusingly, I'm pretty sure my computer is smarter than some of the folks I know, and ...

  • File database index changes

I have changed the index page of the file database this evening. The index now provides listings of the latest uploaded files, latest news and latest forum topics for easy viewing. The "Hot Topic" feature is now a little further down the same page. I have moved the category listing to it's own page for people who use this feature. Also of note, I have created a proper news archive for the site. The page lists the entire news history of the site, divided into pages of 10 articles each....

  • Thrashing to Oblivion

Straight from the Bethesda Blog, gstaff brings attention to a Ukrainian progressive rock band who have produced a cover of the Oblivion theme tune by Jeremy Soule. Personally I couldn't help but sit there giggling like a sissy girl through most of it (don't ask why), but check it out by going to their MySpace page. The page is savoury and, for once, does not contain pink text on a black background -- probably a first for MySpaz. ...

  • Tagging facelift and search

After recommendations from resident member Sativarg the tagging system has had a slight facelift. Each tag now fits under a general category to better show what the tag relates to. You can see the change in the unassigned tags section of any file tag pop-up, or in the tag search. Links have been added to the tag search on the left navigation of the file database (underneath the advanced search link) and on the advanced search page. The tag search tells you how many confirmed tags there are to...

  • Server Instability Continued

Since disabling the viewing of comments from the file page last night the server has no not crashed once, which is telling. Part two of my plan has been to implement a button that you need to click to view the latest file comments. Upon clicking the button it'll take a few seconds to load the latest comments, but after that everything will look as it did before. Hopefully this will reduce load on the server as not everyone wants to view the latest file comments. I shall continue to monitor...

  • Server Instability

The site server has been crashing quite a lot recently; often going down for half an hour every few hours. I'm constantly monitoring the server to try and find the cause of the problem but it still eludes me. I have turned off the file comment view on file pages for this evening so I can monitor the load under these differing circumstances. More than likely I will be recoding the comments view to show in a new window, or only load when the user specifically requests to view the latest file co...
